Let's give kudos where it's well deserved.
manchester is rife with good stuff at the moment
pick the last good live band you saw so it's not a case of favouritism?
so the one before that was warm widow
and i'm not claiming they're the best either
cat_race this is a shambles of a criteria-filling post
the most newest that i really like is tekla doing her guitar playing singing but she hasn't even got anything online yet. i suppose you could listen to dbh he is probably the best guitarist i've ever met
i feel like i've proper slated them now
they've heard the fall, then.
that's good. I don't mind. I just want to listen
if you're not the best local band, don't post your stuff.
(The guy in the flat above me has a band I think, but they only play cack-handed Oasis covers, so this counts I think)
i wasn't sure if you were going to be winding me up with your post. But this is good
Arp Attack - Decent synth-pop band that are good fun live
Pivotal - Interpol copyists who have some great songs, but very poor recordings of them, but I saw them support Slow Club and they're really good.
Obligatory JAG, I drum in this band, we're about to play our first gig in february, here's a song
And they've just entered the studio :)
so ill stick with aberdeen and Carson Wells.
I'd quite like the opinions of a bigger sample group though if that's alright?
I just put that up there incase you didn’t know about them, or know that you could easily browse through all of them. As there isn’t a link on the main page to the regional columns.
that was a dick move. I thought it was a sarcy post and now you've explained i feel like a bit of a chump.
Nice idea for a thread
We're used to people being sarcastic
Moved to London now, I think. Dunno, can't keep up with him, but he is/was very local, and he's rad.
Speak Galactic - FFO: Pip Paine era Metronomy
Gnarwolves FFO: Punk played by hardcore kids.
Holland FFO: Death Cab and We Were Promised Jetpacks. Put them on last year and the new stuff is great.
Saint Savanna FFO: Local Natives, Alt-J, Fleetwood Mac (mates band who are pretty great)
Delta/Alaska (my own JAG band from London. Sorry. FFO: Foals, Mogwai?)
JAG JAG JAG
They're getting quite a lot of gigs now, hope they go far!
do you know Nick?
I used to live with Sam (the drummer)
They're playing The Albert as part of Sea Monsters 3 tomorrow night - hoping to get along to see them.
Some Rabbits http://somerabbits.bandcamp.com/
The Long Rays https://soundcloud.com/the-long-rays/response-b
are mugstar still at it and did kling klang just sort of stop?
They're starting to get more attention now, after the Liverpool Psyche-fest.
it's only taken about 8 years then?
Never heard of them before, but was incredibly impressed.
can now be found in The Left Hand
All the new bands from my town are on Pitchfork faster than you can boot a Macbook Pro and they'll maybe do 1 'gig' a year which will be at an art student friend's 'opening' and involve laptop, MPC, vocal, beards, hiking boots, hat, fringes (for the female(s)) and more instagram pictures than melodies
so: are there any bands who are just good, from your area, who haven't done that? surely there's one, BITS?
if there is a local scene going on then I don't know where it's happening - probably in a suburb somewhere
at least I fucking hope so
this guy lives next door to me
but I think some people here already know them:
Bricolotheque are pretty pretentious but can be good:
This lot are from London, which isn't near me, but I've performed with them before and hope they'll go on to do well for themselves because they're really nice people:
Can't get enough of these live at the moment. most raucous.
caught them in a minuscule sheffield art space last year - chaotic in the best possible way. they were great at fat out fest, too.
The Spook School - http://thespookschool.com/
make a great racket, write borderline stalking loveletters to other bands, just signed to Fortuna Pop! :D
Post War Glamour Girls - http://postwarglamourgirls.bandcamp.com/
Had a sneaky preview of their debut album, and it's everything I hoped it would be.
Spitting Pearls is the one.
San Cisco (borderline twee indie pop)
Speak Galactic are fucking brilliant http://speakgalactic.bandcamp.com/
See also Sealings http://italianbeachbabes.bandcamp.com/album/sealings-s-t-ep
Woodpecker Wooliams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI1pja9DNxs
Loads of really great bands in Brighton currently, its great
FFO: Fever Ray, Television, Radiohead.
that speak galactic track is fantastic
not sure about his others, like, but that one's great
I hope Georgiabeth is proud
currently recording also looking for gigs
but check this if you wanna here some borderline weird stuff coming out of(or kinda near) sunny READING, BERKSHIRE. you know - drone, kraut, post-whatever, other things. the top 4 are "new". cheers.
http://lionsaresmarterthaniam.bandcamp.com/ Instrumental post-rocky stuff. Apparently their based in Southampton now, but they used to be based in Hastings
Sexy electronica. He's the real thing. Actually, he's even better than the real thing.
Don't let the name throw you... there's nothing teen or little kid about the band. It's just really solid postpunk/shoegaze deliciousness. Rose is my favorite song.
Start with YUNG, though.
Not even a little bit new but Tango in the Attic are my favourite local band outwith the whole Fence thing. Here's the video for their song Swimming Pool. Always feel they should be bigger, not sure why they've never really caught on. Cue "cause they're shit" comments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFhb9fbMefY
