I like the album's artwork.
Should have expected this really
Love how the site has a FAQs page. If only there were some frequently asked questions people had for My Bloody Valenitne...
Took ages, but I finally got through and ordered the LP/CD/download bundle for a total of about $40 including shipping to the US. I've only played the dl 2x so far but what is standing out is how absolutely "thick" sounding this. I'll be playing this for the rest of the weekend, I'm sure. I've seen lots of FB posts basically saying it sounds like an extension of Loveless without sounding like "Loveless 2". I agree so far :)
Annoyingly the site doesn't work on smartphones. Picked the wrong weekend to be away from my laptop.
Only on track 3 so far but sounds pretty good.
Saying they're having issues getting it to work.
The allow time for delivery bit made me laugh.
£15.75 for the CD version!!!!!!!!
There's nowt wrong with my details or my card, so it better be this fucking website.
Ended up paying on the same card via Paypal. Worked fine.
I like that their FAQ basically says 'if our website is shit, just try a different one'.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I'M LISTENING TO NEW MBV
at one point, I thought Kevin had messed up my card for an hilarious jape.
can then convert to mp3 for my mp3 player
So I can then put them on my iPhone for commutable listening? (I am technically useless).
in my experience very few mp3 players will play wav files (and they are massive (1.5gig!)
you get get free programs on cnet thatll convert it for you.
most laptops will be able to play the high quality wavs though.
Much smaller files (FLAC is kind of RAR or ZIP), the same quality.
1.5 gig file... glorius digital quality :D
was that it'd be another Loveless. In as much as MBV could possibly expect to achieve those diametrically opposed goals, they've succeeded. 9/10
i really hope so.
downloads have to be from itunes or whatever
and liking based on the first ten seconds or so
It's actually really fucking good.
As good as anything they've ever done before.
Especially love 'Only Tomorrow' and 'New You' on a first listen
Like, have they been in the vault, subject to failed periodic tweaks over the last two decades and are only now deemed worthy of release, or have they been written fairly recently?
So far I really like some tracks, quite dislike a few others and find the others pleasant enough.
I've seen both versions. What's the correct title?
We're all tedious bastards here, let's not single out one person!
or is that just me being a cheap bastard and used to 7digitals £5 offers.
I do and that`s why I won`t be buying it.
i'll get it when it goes on general release... likely cheaper
But I eventually gave in because I am weak.
I really love nothing is
i downloaded the wav version and converted to apple lossless using itunes, but it won't download to ipod? thought that usually works.
but did you get 24bit wav or 16? Does iTunes cope with 24bit? You might need to downsample to 16bit/44.1khz?
I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. Who Sees You is a monster of a tune.
But it's actually fucking great. Shoegaze fucking Xmas.
the 320kbps mp3 version is actually an 128kbps transcode. I keep reading people saying to get the wavs and convert them yourself.
i.e. bad quality
it means the mp3's were converted to a low quality and then reinflated to the size of a file of good quality but lacking the actual audio information to sound good quality as that was lost in the original mp3 creation.
Ive just checked in audacity, it stops at 16,000hz which I think means it is not true 320.
Wonder why they would do this, kevin shields constantly thinking of ways to piss people off
but I always listen to MP3's in at least 256kbps VBR. So the best idea would be to wait for the CD then rip that? I might just download a 'cheeky' version of the bad version for now.
Never done it before, was a bit of a bitch for half an hour trying to figure it out but totally worth it.
1. I foolishly plumped for the allegedly 320kbps mp3s, because it was 4 in the morning and I was worried my computer would deal better with those than the WAV files. If, has been pointed out above, they are actually a 128kbps transcode, can I get better quality files by simply uploading the CD to iTunes when it arrives?
2. With respect to the recent remastered CD edition of Loveless - what is the difference between the two CDs? And I remember people talking about a digital glitch on one of the tracks - if I buy a copy now, is it possible that the glitch will have been removed?
Cheers. I hope you're all enjoying m b v :)
2. different masters, one digital and one analogue i believe, and v. unlikely the errors are going to have been fixed until a new pressing. also apparently the discs are labelled the wrong way around. shocking really.
1. yes, but make sure you set in the preferences the quality and file type you want, think it defaults to 128 AAC (which is slightly better than 128 Mp3) but you can change it to mp3 and set the rate.
Definitely not gonna fork out for a glitchy version of Loveless then!
Oh, HAI Apple!
Was expecting this to be shocking to be honest but it's really quite decent.
Nit picking here but I'm not fond of the cover art and the only reason I say that is because 'Loveless' is one of my favorite album covers ever. This one's a bit unimaginative.
Still, that I can easily live with.
DiS, I want a review by 9 o'clock tomorrow morning please. Ta! Don't fuckin' let me down.
say, in about 22 years
' I notice that it's almost uniformly white blokes of a certain age who are getting excited about this. ..... Go and listen to The Seer instead. '
Cos, like, all those black 17 year old Swans fans.
