i like wonderwall
it is wonderwall
or maybe Magic Pie
I don't much like Oasis but I will defend Be Here Now to an extent.
That and Acquiesce are there only two decent songs as far as I can remember.
but they've got so many great songs it's difficult to choose.
Possibly better than every song on Be Here Now.
Probably Liam's best ever vocal too
always quite loved talk tonight. that's a great song.
bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
chained to all the places that he never wished to stay
bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say
as he faced the sun he cast no shadow
but slide away yeah probably that.
He wanted this song played as the final song at his cremation.
I'd always enjoyed it but it took on an entirely new life after that, as you would expect. It's certainly their most devastating song to me now. And one of their best.
the thing with oasis is they've been in my life for so long i genuinely can't tell if their lyrics are awful or good for the most part, definitely giving him cast no shadow though. great melody for that bit too.
isn't the best song that Oasis ever wrote. No. But it's the essence, the idea, the experience, the thrill. That and Acquiesce.
Glad we all agree
Or maybe Masterplan, yeh.
I keep coming back to it, his voice is brilliant in it.
...sublime chorus, that.
U R Rong.
The correct answer is Whatever. or Acquiesce. or Slide Away. or Cigarettes & Alcohol, for the T.Rex
Not only has there been no consensus on what their best song, but it hasn't even been narrowed down to two or three choices - there's at least ten different tracks in the mix.
Give it another 10 years when all the cultural baggage and tragic songs like Little James have faded from view and they'll be treated well
It was scheduled on the day they 'split'.
Shit, I hate that default cynical post that seems to be necessary in every thread on this site and now it's me. Boooo. Especially in a thread full of love. But this is so true it's undeniable.
but Slide Away and Cast No Shadow are both amazing. Also, I think the chorus to Little By Little might be the best section of music they ever put to tape
the verses and solo to Little By Little are very near the worst pieces of white bread dadrock ever made
Said all they needed to say in these 5 minutes.
it is clearly out of:
1) slide away, live forever, acquiesce, supersonic or whatever.
Plenty of bangers on the first few records though.
Even their throwaway tracks are songs other bands would kill to write.
Hey hey my my . Can't think of another.
By a fucking mile
And possibly a little surprised too.
theyr much better musicians than theyr given credit for and liams voice used to be so good
and also the fasct that they are hilarious helps
The rest is right on. Without intending in detailing the thread, writing good songs doesn't make you a good musician.
Make good music = good musician, surely.
To me, Cobain is a much, much better musician than Steve Vai or Carlos Santana. Perhaps not as good a music *scholar*.
realyl like some might say too
dreary and dull that song. I'm partial to The Masterplan myself but also Supersonic & slide away
There aren't any.
What a fucking shit band.
there aren't any
do you look silly?
it is indeed!
picking up on grammar mistakes is a bit shitty pal
I mean, when a band's first single sounds like 'I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing' and all their subsequent songs sound even worse, like Status Quo having hit hard times doing nursery rhymes for children, you know you're not exactly in the presence of greatness.
Worse than Chumbawamba, and I don't use sentences like that lightly.
I vote for Whatever
as was the first album I bought.
really really like their cover of I Am The Walrus
At the start of Gas Panic - "It's a good fucking tune this, come on"
Its the essence of everything that was great about oasis in the 90s without Liam's snarling, posturing gobshite-iness (which i, personally, always loved but never mind)
Used to be a massive fan of Oasis, but I didn't think that this (of all songs) would be the one I don't skip when it comes on shuffle.
I mean, it blatantly rips off two Beta Band songs and Strawberry Fields, and Noel says 'feel the bass' which is cringy, but I don't think they've ever beaten the build-up to that final chorus, with that whistle just as it kicks in. Pure joy
Or Slide Away. First two Oasis tunes I got. Played them til death but still love em.
Acquiesce is a good shout. And, whilst it's not their best song, I do have a real soft spot for the Importance of Being Idle.
I heard What's the Story (Morning Glory) a few year's back and was surprised that it wasn't actually that good an album. I was convinced there were loads of good songs on there but, listening back a few years later, there were only three or four. Always thought Definitely Maybe had five great songs and give mediocre ones too. They had far more great songs than their often given credit for on places like DiS but certainly no great albums.
I'm not sure there are any that aren't a bit shit.
I'd have got writer's block thinking of what I was faster than walking down the hall. My dad? Jamie Carragher? I'd never have thought of faster than a cannonball
Not exactly Dylan, but it's at least cohesive for an entire song. Around the time of Be Here Now, being cohesive in consecutive lines was beyond him.
More competitive is worst lyrics. That's a crowded field.
but when I'm pissed Cigarettes and Alcohol is perfect.
with your arms around your mates?
Don't Look Back in Anger.
Also love Stand By Me and Little by Little, Cast No Shadow is decent too.
Used to really like She's Electric until every two bob pub band/acoustic musician started chucking it into their sets
Dyou know what I mean
My Big Mouth
Girl in the Dirty Shirt
I Hope I Think I Know
not on that album, go let it out is wellgood
Surprised no one's mentioned that...
Sad Song + Whatever
Live Forever, Slide Away, Cigs + Alcohol, Columbia
is the definitive one!
4 max. Cut out sticking their best stuff on B sides, cut out most of Be Here Now and they would have some cracking stuff. If they weren't such dicks and weren't so huge, people on here would be going dewy eyed over them constantly.
is nowhere near their best song.
BUT the last 5 seconds of Wonderwall, followed by the first 5 seconds of Don't Look Back are the best 10 seconds of any of their songs.
itchin in the kitchen
yeah whatever you say Noel!
People obviously gravitate towards the early stuff but I thought there were some great tracks on their final album - Bag It Up is a belter.
One of the best things they'd done for years...
Love Dig out your Soul.
Between 94 and 97, they were actually really good, weren't they?
Turns out 11 year old me wasn't as daft as I thought.
Also, no-one's mentioned Married With Children, which I always loved.
its good to be free..
Its pretty much got everything I associate with Oasis, and is all the better for it.
Is there anyone that believes and/or hopes that the new David Zitek- produced Beady Eye album could be amazing? Or is this where I get laughed off of DiS?
with a couple of good songs and some really shit ones
Yeah, you're probably right. I'd fucking love it if they somehow manage to make something amazing though...
I've always had a soft spot for that one.
