is there such a thing as adult onset dyslexia?
over the last 9 months a number of frustrating symptoms have developed and I don't know what it is. I haven't been to the doctor because I'm actually a bit scared that it might be something serious. I'm a bit in denile maybe. I'm hoping it's not and it might go away. Here are my symptoms:
1) much more forgetful - especially short term. I have put a phone to my ear and forgotten who I am calling
2) i mix up letters in words often, usually when writing by hand. for example i might write catipal instead of capital, or i may leave off the last letter of a word altogether
3) i sometimes struggle to think of the correct word for something when speaking - even basic stuff like everyday objects. expressing myself is slightly harder than it used to be.
4) when i introduce people i know i actually have to think of their name rather than it just coming to me. this is kind of an extension of point 3, where simple everyday objects aren't just on the tip of my tongue, I actually have to think of what they are
I have painted a quite bad picture perhaps, but I am coping at the moment - i'm at law school and going to a good firm so it can't be too bad but any help would be really appreciated. my biggest fear is that it's some sort of brain damage or a disorder that will get worse like alzheimers but i'm hoping it's something more normal. I know I should see the doctor but i've been putting it off. has anyone had the same experience or have any ideas?
