Fozzy
Actual cost £12 a ticket, drinks about £3 a pint/shot
Supporting bands, 1st on: Nineteenth Century, a bit like Velvet Revolver. Seemed not too confident, didn't even introduce themselves, but a decent offering, I bought their dvd at the end of the show for £3. The crowd were a bit cruel, shouting out "U SUCK" I suppose they just expected to see Fozzy not some warm-up band. Though the crowd needed warming up, it was freezing last night. 5/10
Next on, were ForeverNever, from Essex, more like Maximo Park, and more appealing to the audience of moshers. They really got the front row involved with their songs, especially "O 7 O 7" with the chorus, "Forever", "Never". 7/10
Finally around 9:30pm, former Undisputed Wrestling Champ Chris Jericho & Ex Stuck Mojo Rich Ward with other band members now known as FOZZY, hit the stage and put on a ROCK SHOW classic.
They started off with "Whitechapel 1888" followed it up with "To Kill A Stranger" and rolled out picks from their Trilogy of Albums including my favourite which is their only CD single, "ENEMY", (which was also a theme tune to a WWE ppv that I have forgotten the name of. Anyone know?).
Chris really knew how to interact with crowd thanks to his years of live performing in the WWE. Y2J jokingly called all those who hadn't already got their breakout album, HAPPENSTANCE, "CHEAP B@st#rds" plugging the fact that "its been out for 4 years already". There was a great guitar solo from Mike Martin which resulted in him breaking a string but the band carried on while he replaced and tuned it all within the space of a song.
A female fan in the front row passed a note to the Fozzy's frontman, who promptly stopped everything and read it out aloud. The fan called June wanted everyone to know that it was her Birthday and this was her treat. Little Chris got the whole Bierkeller to sing Happy Birthday June, but then a chorus of "na na na na na, hey JUNE" broke out. Fozzy, then gave a Morbid Angel rendition of the Beetles classic to mass moshing enjoyment.
By the end of the show FOZZY had the Bierkeller massive into "f**king crazy moshing animals". They received a raucous strong "FOZZY" chant after every track.
The fans really let FOZZY know their appreciation, and FOZZY recipricated with a spectacular double ENCORE of "All That Remains/Eat The Rich" & "FACELESS NAMELESS" and took a bow. 10/10
Professional HUGE ROCK Stars. FOZZY were fantastic. If you haven't heard of them before, then check 'em out. http://www.fozzyrock.com/commentary.htm
p/s You may ask yourself, why have i bothered to write this review? Simply because I had a great time last night and I wish to share it with others, and that it helps to pass the time/monotony at/of work/day, etc.
Feel free to tell me if it sux or if you enjoyed reading it. Thanks
19th Century - quite weak, a bit old, guitarist was well into it (bless), singer looked a bit like BSB's Bryan (or older brother at least) - 3/10
Forever Never - ok stuff, much more mosh friendly but 80% of stuff instantly forgetable (also someone from Busted appeared to get in there...) - 5/10
Fozzy - Excellent (i'm a mark so bear with me): the band got the crowd involved from start to finish, Jericho's PA was weak at times, but everything else just rocked!! The crowd were well into it (not a big crowd, but everyone seemed to be having a whale of a time!).
This was all about what gigs should be - total enjoyment & fun with liberal sprinklings of mindless moshing, sweet!
Word of advice for Jericho - you've done your time in wresting now (15 years is enuff!), you've seen the highs there & delighted the wrasslin crowds. Now do us a favour and commit to your rock career coz we wanna see this kinda sh*t again & again & again!!! Brilliant!! 10/10
