Unless you are incredibly new to this site and have yet to check out our messageboards I’m pretty sure you have heard the name “Antihero” being bandied about the place. So really apart from saying that they are tipped to be massive I really need no other introduction.

They (especially bassist Davo) definitely score points for trying to throw rock shapes on a stage the size of a broken digestive biscuit without either knocking over an amp or knocking each others’ lights out. The audience was treated to a slightly shaky start made up of a sonic assault with a vocal hook that seemed to go on for ever and ever and ever followed by a (half decent) cover of a Smashing Pumpkins song. Nothing wrong with that in itself but when you’ve heard all of 2 and a ½ songs and you are just gagging to hear more it is frustrating to have to wade through a cover and a song that’s gone wrong. Despite saying that: “we weren’t going to play this one” Somewhere Else was one of the highlights of the set as they finally seemed to get into the swing of things. By the closing song singer Pete Hurley was kneeling on the floor ripping his fingers to shreds on his guitar strings.

Antihero played as though the crowd were going mental, which they should continue doing, but unfortunately the crowd was sat with its arms crossed politely clapping at the end of songs. They have the *potential* to be a great live band, but they need more confidence live and they have to learn to work an audience before they’ll get more than:
