This was Former Utopia's first outing with Drummer Jo-who had brought along 15 mates to watch-all of whom left straight after they played! They played Hex Girlfriend song no 17, Double Negative, Where did you come from Pt 2, What is something good happens,Fighting talk and Schism.

Catnap from Brighton remined me of a scuzzy complex Pavement. Their singer and lead guitarist is very good and I reckon will make a great debut lp.
Epideme also from Brighton-played loud and fast and shouted a great deal. I can only guess they were yelling about about the price of buses these days and the how difficult it is to be taken seriously when you look 12 etc. They sounded exactly like Trumans Water-whom I had more than enough of in 92.

You know, (tangent time-) kids call it experimental but when it's already been done to death by hundreds of other bands over a decade ago, it ain't!.

I am sounding like some old fart now-like one of those guys who would tell me that Clapton was great and when I was mature enough I'd realise that too-and you know what? he is still shit and I got no time for all these bands calling the shite they do 'experimental'(all those wanky London bands-not Epideme). It is just noise and badly edited loops-half arsed ain't experimental! Sorry that turned into a rant.

Econoline from oxford played really well for having drunk so mucn. I love the way Ian plays his Yamaha bass. They had a new drummer too who did a grand job of holding it all down.
Two very pretty spanish women had wondered in to the Windmill randomly and started to dance in an uncontrollably sexy way just in front of me. I don't think econoline expected that to happen! Not many bands get 'uncontrollably sexy dancing' happening spontaineously, do they?

The most interesting thing about this gig was that all the bands and audience members had those ear protector things-except for former utopia. I have never seen that before! seems very sensible but also a bit unrock'n'roll to me.
