Chikinki should volunteer for Channel 4’s ‘Faking It’. Onstage they are shy and assuming as they wait to begin their set, but when they do kick off there’s no stopping them; the nerves have disappeared as the adrenaline takes over. The first song has barely had enough time to make an impact and singer Rupert Browne is already running through the audience trying to impress a crowd who are still wondering how to pronounce the band’s name.

After a good start the band stand proud and the confidence flows freely as the frontman summons the courage to actually speak to the assembled few, "Hi, We’re Chikinki and we’re from Bristol". And that’s it. The band have spoken. It’s not exactly rocket science but at least now we know how to say the name.

Like It Or Leave It’, displaying where their roots lie (between 1993-1998), allows the band to go wild onstage. Like, really wild. Keyboardists Trevor and Boris are nodding their heads so vigorously that they’ll wake up the next morning wondering what the hell they got up to the night before. Crazy Rupert jumps about and rolls about the stage floor as though his clothes are fire.

The gig ends with ‘Sacrifice A Child’ and the band shout, squeal and scream their point across. But be warned, the band don’t really want you to follow their advice. It’s all for fun. And I’ve not had so much fun since my budgie died.
