His caterwauling reaching the back of the theatre and then just that bit more as he surfs on through the crowd. Such a crowd. Would they not be slightly bewildered of this overtly auspicious introduction? Would they fuck. They’re waiting patiently for Def Leppard. They’re waiting for their heroes. Heroes of over 20 years yonder in some cases. They need warming up. They need a bit of a rub down to get themselves loosened up. They need someone to grip the back of their neck and shake them slightly. They got The Darkness tonight and they wanted it. Spandex at no extra charge.
How can it be that a band unsigned, can command such a stage as this? It’s the goddamned Apollo for crying out loud!! This is where QotSA and Liberty X and the Manics ply their trade. Not The Darkness. But it’s oh so comfortable. Swinging their guitars in their over-presumptuous guitar solos and crowd baiting. Rushing from stage left to stage right to the floor and back. It’s all so comfortable. Expect them to be back here on the merits of their own superfluous aptitude not too long from now.
Give me back my mullet.

Oh yes they are! :-D
Re: The Darkness - Manchester Apollo
I saw this tour a couple of days later. The Darkness were quit eliterally , one of the worst bands i've seen in years.
it's no longer 1975. You don;t have to wear Thin lizzy shirts, and yellow spandex that makes you look like a cross between steven tyler at his worst and Stryper. the Darkness are stuck in a world were they are rock gods, rather than the wannabe's living in nostalgia harking back for an age that never existed, sounding like a bunch of hoary ol' hair rockers who never ever got past their first album. They wanna be T-rex, but in really they are terrible. A reheated, overcooked rehash of all the worst rock cliches of the past 30 years, in one package. The darkness themseleves quit eliterally are the worst fucking band ive seen in so long its untrue. I wouldn;t cross the road to see them, except to see them get mown down by a truck
The darkness have nothing to say, except nostalgia for a world that never existed. Get out of the 70's, and into something the real world might recognise as being not shit.
Crap, crap, crap band : their first single will be a turd on plastic.
Re: The Darkness - Manchester Apollo
Opinion on The Darkness seems to be pretty exactly divided down the middle - you either love them or you hate them.
All I would add is that just because "You don't have to" doesn't mean that "You can't". Ever thought that they're not trying to make a point, not even trying to be nostalgic, but just playing the music that they want to play?
Contrary to popular belief, it isn't obligatory to listen to bands you don't like.

Any babies conceived on that night will be able to experience them headlining the Apollo from the womb.
