Unfortunately, most of the crowd were indeed here to see Sucioperro, which posed headliners Jerry-Built with a bit of a problem - do they play a shortened, half-arsed set, or play like it was their last gig ever? Thankfully for those who were lucky enough to hang about and witness it, the 'Built plumped for the latter. Providing a well received burst of keyboard-driven-emo-pop, Jerry-Built appear to have enough energy in them to give the Duracell rabbit a run for his money - keyboardist/mentalist Tall Dave runs off stage and terrorises the crowd with effervescent dancing/jumping/screaming at every opportunity, and singer/guitarist Andy has mastered the art of pulling-off-rock-shapes-while-remaining-the-coolest-fucker-in-the-room down to a tee. The bouncy, Get-Up-Kids style hit-single in waiting 'Receivers' sounds as exuberant as it does on record, and 'A Is B' sounds the way that every happy emo record (is there such a thing?) ever written should have sounded like. 'Patience' is like the bastard offspring of Hot Water Music and 'A', and 'Marriage' doesn't sound as bad as the title suggests - in fact, it's probably better than it's namesake. It's a shame that the band have only got about 40 minutes worth of material in total (and only play about 30), because you feel like you could dance with Tall Dave all night.
Bassist and comic book fanatic Sami swigs beer all the way through tonight's show, so watch and learn. Grab a beer, sit back, and let Jerry-Built do all the entertaining for you.
