This track can go either way, really – swaying and mincing along in roustabout jollity, it could fall into Caesars ‘Jerk it Out’ territory, not quite making the cut, or it could be the sort of track the new Tarantino puts in his rip-off of Pulp Fiction a decade from now. More rattle, more sleaze, more threat.

Context would point to the latter. For now at least, Black Lips remain safely distanced from the ears of ad-men and the hip, clean dudes trapped in promotional set-pieces for Fosters, Vauxhall etc.

And long may it continue that way - ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ is a great bit of slack in a taut, strung-out runt of a record; not saying anything new or anything at all really, just happy to sit there, shoulders slunk back, exuding its stink of cool to all in the immediate vicinity.

sell out

I love this band's music, and they are great live, but I'm dissappointed to learn that they've sold their sold to the advetising world.

surprise

they haven't

My review of this, for a certain student radio station I may or may not out of spite cease going to

Is it 1969? Well, no, but if someone who’d been in a coma since then woke up the first thing he heard on the radio was Black Lips then he probably wouldn’t realize that time had advanced by so much in the interval. Apparently their live show is really good, though. Plus, one of them appears semi-engorged on the cover of the first Deerhunter album, so they do at least know people with actual imaginations.
