Sounding rather like a dippy, modern-day version of Grease soundtrack favourite ‘Teen Angel’, it appears that a rather tumultuous few years for Mystery Jets has lead to a contemplative mood. It suits them well: woozy and delirious. What suits the listening public equally as well, of course, is that ‘Flakes’ is free; part of a nice festive activity list that’s seen them also heading round the UK sleighing the crowds (arf) at some intimate venues.

Remember though: just because it’s free, doesn’t mean it’s not good. Haven’t Radiohead taught you anything?

The only matter to resolve is that of content. It’s not clear what the ‘Flakes.’ discussed within actually are. The obvious hope would be snowflakes, for the seasonal joy. The worry is that it might actually be a lament over the damaging effects of dandruff. We hope not.
