Asobi Seksu: Goodbye

There are no surprises with this new single from Asobi Seksu – once again, the band find themselves attracting the same adjectives as a pre-sex, high school heart-throb. The ‘dreamy’ New Yorkers make ‘nice, winsome’ pop, but come the rush of puberty they’re ultimately forgotten in favour of something more immediately stimulating, like clumsy hormonal grapping or Diddy Kong Racing or No Age.

With better tunes than Kiss Me Deadly and a smarter cut than many others, they aren’t exactly a bad band, but then they aren’t a particularly memorable one, either - mining rock trends like Blondie, but where Debbie Harry had the cartoon gold of punk to colour her pop, Yuki Chikudate has the infinitely less distinct shape of shoegaze which, all in all, leaves ‘Goodbye’ sounding rather flat.

I Love This Song...

... And I think Asobi Seksu are a brilliant band.

Yes, I too disagree with

the review.

Thankyou.

thirded

asobi seksu are amazing and this review is silly

fourthed

I have listened to this track 8 times, and I rate it as 8.

Not very memorable?

they have at least 2 or 3 instantly memorable pop songs on their last album.

I love the song is great but out of context to the album its a bit flat, maybe a 7

this

is one of the better songs on the record. like it very much. it's very very sugary, but they get away with it where others wouldn't.

I like how DiS writers don't seem as homogenous as Pitchfork

so I forgive Mike for printing a review which is clearly way off base.

terrible review

worst review ever. load of pretentious crap.

comparing asobi seksu to no age is like comparing nutella to a jar of fermented diarrhea.

YOFANBOY

Back to your bedsheets. Asobi Seksu is generic, dumpy trash.

go back to pitchfork

Your mom is generic, dumpy trash. Asobi Seksu is a wonderful band that offers a sound that is a refreshing break from the excess of unlistenable hipster tripe polluting the "indie" world nowadays.

just to remind everyone that Pitchfork

gave 8.4 to this album, and never said that sound dated or like No Age.

I love this band.

That is all.

I agree

shoegaze-lite which isn't very interesting after the third listen.
