Give her twelve bars and a cheesy blues lick and Alison Goldfrapp’ll most likely kick some arse, but put her in a wood with her nightie on and the sparks will fail to fly.

That’s the lesson one must sadly draw from ‘A&E’, the first single to be prised from the band’s allegedly ‘mature’ fourth album Seventh Tree.

The song comes wrapped in a weird, wooded video that’s equal parts Kate Bush and Mighty Boosh, but fails to match the eccentricity of either of those references, instead stopping short at slightly left-of-centre chart balladeering. A kind of Frappuccino, if you will.

That said, we can see the idea of recasting Ms Goldfrapp from ball-busting dominatrix into yet another pastel-hued sadsack as a profitable one, which leaves us literally chomping at the bit for her to dust down the riding whip and fetch the nipple clamps once again.

Frappuccino = journalistic gold.

But on a serious note I totally agree with this review its a very dissapointing departure for the band.

yuck

that song is terrible.

what happened to the felt mountain days...

album is alright

i've had a pre listen to the record and a&e for me is the most dissapointing, but the rest of the album is more "felt mountain" ish, and rather nice to listen to.

This single is rubbish

but the album is goooooood.

It looks like I'm in the minority...

but I really like it

surely

GoldFrappucinno would have been more pun-tastic?

I hate the Mighty Boosh

And Kate Moss. So based entirely on that sentence, something which tries to (and fails) to be like them, is doomed to be fairly shit. Shame. They used to be quite good.
