Hailing from Tel Aviv, hard-rocking three-piece Monotonix are likely the most obnoxiously exuberant live act Israel has ever birthed unto unsuspecting mankind. Banned from nearly everywhere they played in their home country, it seemed only sensible to unleash their bestial frenzy on the outside world.

Debut mini-album Body Language captures just enough of the raw energy from their stage shows to tide fans over between gigs and may even convince a few newcomers to check them out. It’s tight-trousered, amp-pulverising assault from opener ‘Lowest Dive’ through to finale ‘On The Road’ with barely the time for breath between tracks.

For those who enjoy seriously overdriven guitars and the heavy metal stylings of The Fucking Champs (whose Tim Green produces here), Monotonix have plenty to offer throughout these six tracks.

you have to see Monotonix live

they played at the Luminaire last night after (the always awesome) Howlin Rain: drinks, straws hurled everywhere... various band members and the entire drumkit moving between the bar and floor (but never the stage).... singer doing rude things with the microphone...

Excellent!

I've heard good things about the live show. I'm definitely going to see them at the end of the month.

They're supporting Silver Jews

Should be fun...

David Berman

Was totally raving about them yesterday.

A good review ...

... but for the fact it reads very similar to the press release. Although, as the album (EP?) is one of the few that meets the claims of its press release, I suppose that's fair enough.

Would like to see this lot live. Someone book 'em a national tour, sharpish; we need more bands with genuine enthusiasm to give the homegrown ones a kick in the arse.

This does read

like a press release.

Saw them twice last year at ZXZW in Holland! So awesome. I think they played 7 times in one day? Can't wait to see them again with Shit and Shine.

Fair point perhaps

But it's a new band that I, and presumably most of you lot, had not heard much about prior to receiving this CD. There isn't a lot written about them on the net as yet, and so I wanted to give a bit of biographical info, my thoughts on the music and a reference point or two to give them context.

Edinburgh

They played my club in Edinburgh at a tiny basement bar called Henry's last night and it was unbelievable. They took the show outside onto the street and we got stopped by the police. They set up in the middle of the crowd rather than the stage, it's really confrontational. I'm still dazed.
