If you’ve been out and about in Southampton over the past few months you’ll have been hard pressed not to have heard anything about Dead! Dead! Dead!. The energy and originality that characterises their live performances has now been given the studio treatment with, quite frankly, astounding results.

The brilliant 'George Lassoes The Moon' kicks off the EP, showcasing frontman Neil Dunsire’s confident vocals and an unconventional songwriting style. I don’t want to call it art-rock, but the triumphant singing/chanting midway through of "The Dogs! The Dogs! The Dogs! The Dogs! Are Coming! Are Coming! Are Coming! Are Coming!" is lifted from Aldous Huxley’s futuristic novel Brave New World. It’s sung with such conviction that it inadvertently acts as a rallying call to anyone hearing the EP for the first time: This band mean business. After five minutes a music box plays the song out and you’re left wondering exactly what’s just hit you.

The more conventional 'Vauderville' follows, an organ/guitar led ballad again with Neil and Matt’s vocals carrying the song majestically "Would you sing out of tune at my funeral? Oh, I hope so", Neil sings. 'Build A Better Day' and 'A List Of Things To Not Forget' round off the EP, songs that again refuse to follow the verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure yet remain immediately accessible whilst still challenging the listener, provoking thought from every chord and lyric.

Dead! Dead! Dead! have certainly managed to produce one of the most incredible demos this correspondent’s ever heard: intelligent, inventive, unconventional and unbelievably infectious – it’s easy to see the band becoming the south’s worst kept secret.

The EP is available at HMV, Essential & FM Music in Southampton.

Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Wahey! One of if not thee south coast's "best" "new" band, and getting some attention! The EP's great, but it's often the live show that seals the deal imho...

*opens offer of shameless plug for their gig supporting the Departure on Oct 6th at Southampton Lennons :)*

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Dead Dead Dead are fantastic live and one of the better Southampton bands I've seen in a long time....much better than the Delays!

I thought it was October 4th that they were playing in Lennons?

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Yessssss October 4th it is. A Monday night, to be sure, to be sure.

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Did you see them last Saturday in the Hobbit? I've saw them last Saturday and they were even better than the last time I saw them. I've not heard their EP yet but getting it tomorrow, defo!

To be sure, to be sure....you're not Irish are you?

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Yes, I was the guy handing out flyers at the end! I was suitably impressed, as ever. Even with the absence of the organ they were amazing.

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Ah yes, sorry, getting confused with the 65*daysofstatic gig on that Wednesday.....

by the way, their demo advertises www.deaddeaddead.co.uk or something but i went there and a load of advertising domain bunf with obviously nowt to do with the band appeared...

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

It's there now...

Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

I agree their live performance is magnificent, based on last night's evidence. They only played 2 songs from this EP, as well. The other stuff sounded just as strong, if not stronger. The final song sticks in mind - it was called - "Jack The Ripper, With A Spanish Twist". Lyrically and musically impressive.

Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

yet to actually hear them or see them, but I have heard some really good reports.....

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

So it is. There was nothing about dogs in it though. Odd.

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

I don't think the two are related at all!

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

I think it's a reference to "It's a Wonderful Life" isn't it?

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP

Yes, apparently so! I haven't seen it (oh, the shame...)

Re: Dead! Dead! Dead! - EP
