As influenced by the early 90s grunge explosion as they are by today’s young bucks offering props to the new wave of band members’ childhoods, Sheffield trio Kimeera are a band unsure of their exact sound. Perhaps that’s a good thing, though, as the noticeable difference in style between ‘Hail Mother Mary’ - all throbbing grunge guitars and throaty vocals - and following number ‘Bring The Thrill’ - which unashamedly plunders the sounds of Joy Division, albeit with a stuttering, post-punk edge - is such that critical ears can’t help but take notice.

Richard Owen’s sneered and aggressive vocals - a comparison to Kurt Cobain is unavoidable - do appear forced on more than one occasion, but Kimeera’s overall sound is solid enough to suggest a step from the demo stage to bigger and brighter horizons is almost inevitable. Theirs is a dirty sound popularised by many before them, but there’s nothing to suggest that this three-piece won’t go the distance, too.
