Neil Hannon writes a pretty tune, I like the way it picks up, and the way the melody twists around….and the production and sounds are great. When I first heard it I thought…Hey…this is nice…

…but the lyrics say nothing at all.

Is this what you write when you've nothing to say, but still have a contractual obligation to write? Do all indie songwriters go to an elephants graveyard of elevator music?

Perhaps there are some indie-folk who wonder at the ascendance of agit rock and nu-metal amongst the kids. Now… I can't say I'm particularly riveted by those bands' latest re-write of that perennial classic 'Kill-Your-Parents-Do-Drugs-Have-Sex-Don't-Go-To-School-&-Cut-Yourself-On-Stage-To-Show-That-You-Are-Keeping-It-Real!!!!!!' ……BUT….it is WAY more catchy and infectious than Neil Hannon's 'Living isn't easy, no need to make it harder' or memorable vignettes like 'If You Want it You Can Have It, and If you Need It - Go and Get It'…. I've got flu, and I'm grumpy…but really… Who buys this stuff???? (Perhaps next time I go to Our Price I'll see crowds of elevators, all shuffling along to the checkout, singles in hand)
