A.R.E Weapons are the latest trendy New York dolls to infortrate our headspace with their articulate brand of sleeze and slur. Not bad either...

Describing the sound of A.R.E Weapons isn't easy...a eclectic mix of sci-fi beats and spewed menacing vocals remind me of a more agressive, dirtier and dare I say it, cooler, version of Primal Scream circa 2000.

'Street Gang' is reminiscent of a sneering Mr Gillespie but even more rauccous with ultimately heart pounding electric drum beats. B-side 'Black Mercedes' is more spoken with some bizarre samples of cars crashing behind more pulsing beats and airy keys complemented by a gritty bass line.

Friends of The Strokes apparently, if it's the sleaze and ultimately the music you're after, NYC is the place to be.

A.R.E WEAPONS - Street Gang

The sound is Not difficult to describe, It is Suicide's first album. On the Rough Trade site they actually say "we want to be Suicide".

Re: A.R.E WEAPONS - Street Gang

Having never heard suicide, i would be unable to comment.

Re: A.R.E WEAPONS - Street Gang

Go find a copy of Frankie Teardrop NOW!

Re: A.R.E WEAPONS - Street Gang

is that suicide as in rage against the suicide?

A.R.E. Weapons - Street Gang

I am smitten by A.R.E. Weapons, but I'd be an ostrich with its head stuck in the sand not to admit that yes, even the singer's non-verbal yelps and hollers are Suicide carbon-copies...yes, do check out "frankie teardrop" by Suicide now and hear for yourself. At least they are emulating something different. I also hear echoes of Foetus aka Clint Ruin & something JG Ballard..the novel "Crash". Like a dangerous streak thru central park in the late 70s at 3am.
