I knew this band were somewhere on the horizon and I wasn’t wrong. First came Hundred Reasons, who I can’t get past the heavy insincere love songs and At the Drive-In-liteness of. Then came Vex Red who’re a little too grungey for me but have their odd moment. But now, this is going to sound stupid, but literally from the same house of rock, Reuben were spawned whilst still dressed in their school uniforms. It’s a true story which is going to dog the band a little in every single review written about them for a while but not for long. The weirdest thing is, I love Reuben. They’ve got the complexity, they’ve got the grooves, they’ve got the screams, they’ve got a scoop of grunge, they’ve got 3 songs that I’ve not turned off all afternoon and if you want anything else from a rock band, then go, erm, go see Kiss in your faded to grey leather body suit!

’Scared of the Police’ is the bands debut single and in the true fashion of numero uno releases, it’s a universe shaker. There’s the gritty air of nu-metal about it, with nuances comparable to Silverchair and breeze-block textures reminiscent to early deftones which one can’t help to tell you about in true lazy-journo style. I think the only way you can describe Reuben is by saying they sound like the feeling you get in the centre of a moshpit when everyone is bouncing and singing in unison.

I mentioned grunge and dark bands didn’t I? Well, what Reuben don’t do, is moan and groan or mess about with the boring bits of songs. It’s all big, sing-a-long, smiley rock music! I know I say this all the time, but something is going to happen with this band, the worlds just about ready I reckon. Go, buy, and have the music make your mind up.
