New Rising Sun are better than the Datsuns. Their songs are better and although Led Zep inspired, it’s clear they’ve moved on a bit since then. ‘Swan Song’ is well worth checking out from this EP, and the whole thing is a foot stomper.

If you’re into gravel vocals a la Gomez, the nucleus of New Rising Sun’s melodies seems to be singer Adrian Conell’s gut projections. Though energy wise, this EP seems a little flat, more an outlet of a bit of romantic steam, than a full valve breaker, as what might be melodic progression goes a bit stale in places. That said, ‘State Of Mind’ is very interesting in a nouveau indie framing, and as has some courageous elements to it that make this ‘Outafocus’ release varied and much more ear worthy. Not to mention, better than the Datsuns and the bloody Strokes to boot.
