Feeder: Just The Way I'm Feeling

Musically speaking, this band suffers from a severe case of Elephantiasis; everything that hangs off them appears to be these huge, grossly deformed monstrosities that bear little resemblance to their intended form.

The single appears to be a reflection on the passing their erstwhile drummer, Jon Lee, and to be honest, I can’t think of a worse ‘tribute’ than this; Who wants to be commemorated in an overblown, paint-it-by-numbers-strings-n-kitchen-sinks rock ballad dirge? Not me. But fortunately I never was or will be in Feeder.

"And I feel we’re going down/ten feet below the ground”. A tribute to Jon? If so, then shocking. Nothing to do with Lee? Then an awesomely distasteful choice of phrase. You decide.

Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

Gareth Dobson is the new Joe Wisbey. In simply the records he chooses to review. SO obvious.

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

would you rather he choose to review a single that was out in 1943? or to review b-sides by chinese punk bands?

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

thats a pretty fuckin awful review.

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

I think Gareth Dobson should stop writing music reviews full stop. He defines the word 'amateur' and he's bringing this site down.
Mind you, you probably respect his opinions Sean- and that speaks volumes.

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

Arf!

Look, I'm sorry about the whole Feeder thing...

but not the review.

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

Isn't it Feeder who should be sorry?

Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

In spite of their unimaginative-but-not-quite crassness, Feeder have managed to sell out their upcoming UK tour, including a couple of nights at Brixton Academy. Sure, the strings on the new album are 'stick-on' ('We're maturing,' pleads Grant) and sure, quite a lot of their 'arm-wavers' sound distinctly similar. But not too many other bands can claim the reach Feeder got with this single (A-playlisted on XFM, Radio1, Virgin and,er, Radio2). And live there's a lot to be said for big, fat, uncomplicated anthems delivered in an uncomplicated stylee...especially if you're 15 and it's your first real gig.

Re: Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

You see, this is the sort of thoughtful, considered opinion that is simply not needed and frankly, not welcome on DiS. Objectivity? needless.

Interesting points. But to me, they're the RAWK Stereophonics, or a career-accelerated Manics (and no, I'm not talking about the loss of members). I just find them a bit... distasteful .

And taste has never had anything to do with selling records.

Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling

I may well be alone in this, but I think it's a damn fine single, and deserves to be playlisted.

Have I just missed the point of this entire website?

THE POINT. (yowch)

you are the only one. so alone.

there is no point to this website, unless you have a weird 3D screen and if you do, are they any good? i tried detuning my screen and wearing 3D glasses but it didn't make me see any point to anything.

infact, i think the point is to not have a point. or to make up your own point.

don't you think? (translation: do you not think?)

Love
Mee Mee xx

Re: THE POINT. (yowch)

ah well, it's nice to be unique every once in a while!
I think the point is not to have a point, which means that the point is against the point, and therefore pointless. almost like west ham...

I have loved feeder for a long long time, and will continue to love them. The first time I heard JTWIF it sent shivers down my spine and it will probably continue to do so.. It deserves every single bit of sucess it get, as it is one of their prettiest songs to date. As for being a fitting tribute to Jon? It's a beautiful song, one of which Jon would have been proud. For your information it was written before Jon's death and although I don't know what lyrics got changed it any, that line is typical Grant and was probably already there.

Oh and anyway the single is worth buying just for the b sides.. :)

OK it's not High or Cement and doesn't have the old school feeder edge.. but it's still a fantastic song and I love every second of it. I can't wait to see them live on their sold out tour, next month.
