'And They Obey' is instantly engaging, beginning with a discordant smash of an intro which soon hurls you into a punchy verse and anthemic chorus. A little formulaic perhaps, but this is rock'n'roll after all, and a lack of originality can be excused if the execution makes up for it. Which in this case it does. Even despite the political edge to the lyrics (whatever happened to music for escapism?) it's possible for even the most apathetic person to lose themselves in this. If the riffs were a little less predictable and the guitar solos more explorative, this would be perfect.
This is extremely promising, but while finding fault in the note-perfect but equally passionate rock of Kinesis is something of a challenge, it's possible that the formula could become a little repetitive on a full-length record.
