Audioslave, you know the drill, ¾ of R.A.T.M. and that guy from old hippy wuss-rock band Gardner's World (or something) should equal a good band, right? Wrong. Whatever Zach De La Rocha did to those guys back in the day to get them to play that well must have been pretty harsh, perhaps it's just Chris Cornell messing about and spoiling things, but this is just weak.
Yes, by anyone's standards this is just poor, Cornell's vocals come straight out of a Shooting Stars club singing round, Tom Morello's formerly rabble-rousing guitar just sounds tired, the blippy bloopy things he does that used to sound cool in a "how does he do that, it's so cool" style just sounds like he's going through the motions, they all do.
Today is a time of new levels of religious war, global corporate corruption and the New World Order marching through burning deserts, everything that R.A.T.M was against is gaining ground, they stood for the right to choose, the right to oppose, what do Audioslave stand for?
Who Cares? Go and check out what Zack's doing instead, here's a hint: not sounding like he's had a stroke. At least the last single rocked in a Led Zep style, this just slurs. The only revolution you get with this CD is when it spins around in your player.
Audioslave - Like A Stone
i hate u.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
And yes, its perfectly comparable to compare them to Rage and Soundgarden. Even if to point how good they might of been and how poor they actually are.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
i've never forgiven them for the whole "i'll only join if i dont' have to sing about politics" comment Cornell is said to have made, i mean, what's the point?
Sony knew it was only a matter of time before RATM went soft and they had a nice safe band to sell, and here they are
ollie.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
So ner.

Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
I actually respected him for that - I mean, how shit would it have been if Chris Cornell had suddenly become politicised just because he was joining a band with politically active musicians. It would've come across as a bit... well crass, for want of a better word.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
Yeah, that was really hippy wasn't it!? Thunderdrums, loud, fedding back guitar, overdriven bass...
Do you people actually know what you talk about!?
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
but anyway, we've got loads of rock bands (wuss or otherwise) and i don't think Audioslave really add anything new to the day, they're a wasted chance to do something good, and y'see, i maintain that *everything* is political, so by not singing about politics, you're singing about a big fat nothing, will Audioslave be compaired to things in 30 years like the 'Zep are?
anyway, i've got SARS so i need to find someone to cough on...
ollie.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
I don't get why everyone is so obsessed about history when rock and fucken roll is about exploding in the present, not giving a fuck about tomorrow, your job, your nagging girlfriend, your bitter ex, your parents giving you shit for not bringing in the washing. Rock n Rock at its heart is about escapism, partying HARD in bohemia and living for the moment. Rock n Roll is about wanting to destroy the future and nuke the past. It's about moments of lust, orgasms, screaming. It's about disconnecting yourself from reality.
Or am i missing the point? Is it all about haircuts and genuine reproductions of the past?
Fuck all this sissy nerdy obsession with your parents favourite bands and wake up to the fucken end of the world. And damn the man if it'll help sell records.
The mtv2 rock revolution day is doing my day-off head in so-so-so-so much. If I see one more cleanshaven rich kid playing a flying v and singing about their cool friends and fashionesta girlfriends i swear i'll slaughter the staff at The Face, Sleazenation and Dazed and Confused for crimes against taste and decency.
Rock n Roll should never be cool.
The end.

Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
i'll take that as a yes.
For me, aswell a many of the things mentioned above that i agree with, in my opinion the essence of rock music is about doing what you want and beleive in and not caring about what anyone else thinks.
Sometimes i feel that this gets lost.
Whether this is being into "uncool" music or doing "uncool" things like not drinking or smoking.
Or whatever as these things can change over time and as trends change
Just do what the fuck you like
This is just my humble opinion, and what the hell do i know
anyways, where is the definition of "Rock and Roll" maybe it should just be whatever people want to get from it.
oh i dont know,
what the fuck am i on about
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
In my book (which i'll probably write when i'm old enough) however..
Rock'n'Roll is never humble, that's for sure.
It's never polite.
And it's never ever ever constrained.
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
but.......but........oh fuck it, its too hard to have a proper conversation over the net
Re: Audioslave - Like A Stone
Fuckin hell, Sean is the embodiment of Rock 'n' Roll!
He don't even take the washing in, man!
But yeah, I do actually agree with some of what you said, possibly for the first time. Although you wrongly exclude 'rich kids' from being able to rawk, that's just a stoopid comment, really, isn't it? A kind of inverse-elitism?
Rock 'n' roll is about escapism and having a ruddy good time, very true. And it's about not giving a fuck about what people think of you. But what I see the main point as being is that it excludes no-one. Not even 'rich kids'. Remember Joe Strummer?
It's more the celebrity-obsessed media coverage of music that makes rock 'cool', I don't think that most bands worth listening to would really put style over content, it's just how the press constructs em. Most bands, believe it or not, probably place emphasis on their music. Turn off the cynicism and 'the man' shit and you may recognise this.
Audioslave - Like A Stone
I realy like Audioslave and i think they deserve more credit
I totally disagree with almost everything in that article!
!
the title of the song refers how thrilling the song is
Ah well
they're dead now anyway, who cares
