You know what? I’ve never really felt comfortable listening to Hot Water Music. The delicate post-hardcore stylings; the Braid-like vulnerability; the full-throated raspiness. These different components, together, just never seemed to click for me. That is, until I heard this single.

Somehow, somewhere it has all started to gel, and in a very powerful way. You could cite their breakthrough album ‘A Flight And A Crash’ – from which B-side ‘Paper Thin’ is taken – as a turning point or look more directly to last year’s ‘Caution’, where these skills seem to have been honed to near perfection.

Taken from said album, ‘Remedy’ is a thumping, tear-away, punk-rock anthem that righteously plunders deep into Bombshell Rocks territory where backing chants work closely alongside splintered guitar-lines, breaking up a usually thick punk rock assault through an intellectual unfolding that drives the music evermore into your head.

Oh yes. Now this is what modern punk rock should sound like!
