Yes yes yes, let's have it all, and what's more, let's have it in threes. 'ABC' is a pop-perfect, harmony-soaked, synth-propelled, superlative-laden two minutes of South Coast retro throwback seaside genius.

That make no sense? I make no apologies - the flapping tongue that impedes my vocal praise for Brighton's Pipettes has apparently spread to my fingers.

Backed by the equally wonderful 'Judy' - a swingin' Sixties soulful serenade aimed squarely at the lost and disaffected covering their imperfections with braggadocio and aggression; bullies, basically - and the fairly throwaway (but no less lovable in the short term) 'Simon Says', 'ABC' is the blindingly blue-skied start to the summer, pressed onto limited-edition wax and shipped straight into the heart. Buy it, grab a stick of rock for a microphone and join in...

"A, B, C, one, two, three, X, Y, Z...!"

The Pipettes - ABC

oooooh must buy, must buy! is it just on vinyl tho? I have no means to play the fuckin stuff at the moment...

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

yeah, and i think it's already sold out...

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

It was one of those singles that was sold out before it was released. Indicative of the current insulting attitude to vinyl: Records are collector's items. I am riled.

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

how true.

The Pipettes - ABC

already sold out...rubbish!! i suppose when all you do is drink for 6 weeks you sorta lose track of release dates

p.s the new girl is quite fit (and she's welsh..bonus!)

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

but there's a very good reason why Rose (i think) is in the center of all their pictures...

The Pipettes - ABC

if you love that movie 'the commitments'
-then you'll love this

i fucking hate the commitments

The Pipettes - ABC

Saw then supporting the Magic Numbers and was impressed for about five minutes, then just thought they were the sort of novelty band that would be a big hit at student union balls.

Yes they are 'fit' but so what? So is Louise Nurding and I've never bought any of her records.

Re: The Pipettes - ABC

Hmm, see i really like the pipettes, and formed this opinion from hearing them on the radio first without any visual information. I like the 60's girl group sound juxtaposed with those kind of lyrics. Admittedly im a student (although not for much longer...)

Anyway in relation to their (and in particular rose's) attractiveness its just one of those things that people are going to comment on, especially given the whole costumes and co-ordinated dancing that the pippettes employ. The fact is that they're performers, and while some people get all high and mighty about how it should purely be about the music etc, bands perform live, and hence should put on a decent show, how they do that is up to them.

The Pipettes - ABC

Yes they did put on a decent show, just didn't think much of the music...apart from the last song which goes 'We are the Pipettes' which was good.

The Magic Numbers (although being marginally less attractive....haha) and without consciously putting on a 'show' as such were fantastic....maybe this had something to do with the quality of the music.

Didn't realise the Pipettes are from Brighton....guess my comments will ruin my chances if I bump into them in town (as if!)
