While the new B&S album may have die-hard dufflecoat-wearers gasping in sheer insecurity at their heroes’ apparent shift towards polished popness, they can, at least temporarily, rest easy.

‘Step Into My Office, Baby’ is a return to the indie innuendoes that have served Stuart Murdoch and twee pals so well in past times. Which means nudge-nudge wink-wink workplace cheekiness via “a chance of overtime/say my place at nine” instructions and as much shy choirboy nattering as you’re ever likely to get from a singer fast approaching middle age.

It’s catchy, fun and almost throwaway. Here’s hoping they don’t take any overriding t.A.t.U. influence from Trevor Horn’s much-lauded production and make the accompanying video dressed as sexually confused school kids, though. That’d be just plain disturbing.

Ahoy.

Yes! It's sodding ace. Has me dancing like a fool.

Step Into My Office Baby

I think that it's one of the worst songs they've ever done, and blights the album horribly. They're just not as good at classic pop as they think they are. Grah. It frustrates me when B+S are anything short of excellent. Sigh. Etc.

I'll still fucking buy it, though.
