Doves: Black And White Town

Welcome back Doves. It’s funny that the band return with a song which laments the continual changing of their history and landscape whilst themselves staying EXACTLY THE SAME. Well, it’s not that funny. More a remark.

Thumped chords, slow burning choruses, a sense of bloodied yet unbowed majesty, and that warm comforting feeling of a returning loved one.

A little more complex, a tad more progressive, but essentially cryogenically frozen in musical time. And while we’ll never back inertia over forward thinking, some bands get to a point where you know it’s just right.

The song? Social alienation, despair, uneasiness, Northern stuff. The usual. Grrreat.

Doves - Some Cities

What it is, is very dull.

Re: Doves - Some Cities

For some reason I really like it, and I usually hate Doves. I think it's the piano chords.

Doves - Some Cities

obvious but....

"some cities" is the album, not the single.

Re: Doves - Some Cities

You're correct - you can even see the single's title written on the image! :D

Re: Doves - Some Cities

Christ, where was my head that afternoon... *blushes*

Doves - Some Cities

Yeah, it's called Black And White Town :)
It's really grown on me - it's still no There Goes The Fear or Pounding, but it's a cracking tune and it has one of the most affecting lyrics they've ever written.

Doves - Some Cities

I actually think this is the best thing this lot have done to date.
It sounds like 'Heatwave' by Martha And The Vandellas on tamazepan. Lovely.

Doves - Black And White Town

It's a great song, powerful, inventive, energetic, top stuff. Hurrah!

Doves - Black And White Town

I like The Doves, and I'm looking forward to their new album, but I hope the sound sits nicely somewhere between their last album, The Last Broadcast, and their 1st album.

Doves - Black And White Town

errm...I can't actually remember this song even though I've heard it loads of times. It's ok I guess, but doesn't get much greater than that.
