Snow Patrol Run

It’s been an arduous journey for Snow Patrol, beginning with their 1998 debut release ‘Little Hide’ and taking in an ever-running, insidious trek from toilet to toilet without ever really gaining the recognition or commercial success their undoubted talents merited.

Last year they put out their third album (‘Final Straw’) to little or no avail, despite most of the critics, myself included, creaming their pants to the point whereby the stains became irremovable, the general public’s ignorance (indifference?) probably highlighted when ‘Run’’s predecessor ‘Spitting Games’ came on the radio in the office and one of my colleagues was heard to remark that “that Stereophonics’ new single is the best thing they’ve done in ages...”

Philistines, the lot of you, because believe me, Snow Patrol will have their day. It may not be pre-empted by this single, but if there is any justice this will sit pretty in a Top Ten currently enamoured with daytime karaoke treats, sticking out like a sore thumb up Michelle McManus’ fat arse and thankfully ensuring Pete Waterman leaves the country rather than the safe confines of Carlton Television studios, luvvy.

Snow Patrol - Run

Methinks this song will do quite well, it's actually got playlist play on a lot of radio stations.

Plus, it's better than Spitting Games, and that at least got top 75.

Snow Patrol - Run

If people could actually buy their album it might help their plight. Their record company deleted it a couple of weeks back. Many unhappy people who have heard Run on the radio have had to resort to Ebay and Kaazaa etc...

Snow Patrol - Run

The album's getting re-released next month with 2 extra tracks

Snow Patrol - Run

just ace. Lightbody genius. Section on

Snow Patrol - Run

they deleted it?! already?

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

because they're going to reissue it with extra tracks, as major labels do...

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

i hate reissues

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

Thats just wrong. People who wanna hear 'Run' (cos it's so damn brilliant) who have already bought the album, like i did are gonna have to buy it again just for 2 tracks? im not surprised people r going on kazaa etc.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

i think the other 2 tracks will be available for download from the website, to save people who already have the 1st issue from buying another copy, cos they're a nice bunch really

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

well tht sucks cos i already ordered the new bonus cd wen i already got the first issue!!

Snow Patrol - Run

Wow, oh wow! what a track. this is going to be a mighty fine year in music (80'sMB-LD, Lostprophets, SOAD, Incubus,etc...) Actually, has anyone heard the new incubus single 'Megalomaniac'? also very, very good.

Snow Patrol - Run

'Run' is fecking brilliant. Buy it, buy the album, go see 'em when they tour in the spring (i think), and remark on frontman Gary Lightbody's remarkable resemblance to Taking Heads front man David Byrne. Oh yeah and they've got a bassist who looks like Maradonna. But less bloated.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

They're supporting Athlete on their UK jaunt as far as I can remember. So at least they'll get a lot of exposure to people who've never heard of 'em. Hopefully.

Snow Patrol - Run

Saw Snow Patrol in the Ulster Hall last October supporting Travis, they were brilliant, very impressive. Fran and Andy obviously thought so too as they sat on the floor at the side of the stage to watch them.

Snow Patrol - Run

I'm glad to see everyone is saying positive things about SP. Most of the time when stuff like this is posted, People just have stupid arguments saying, "I hate SP", "I love SP" etc
Come on the snow patrol love!

Snow Patrol - Run

So the only way for them to get recognition was to become a Coldplay rip-off band.. ok, fair enough. That bloody single does my head in, "light up, light up.." what? shut up, shut up.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

so fuckin true
this is intolerable dross. i cant even applaud it from a "getting rock into the charts" perspective. its just plain desperate, and not in an awesome way.
spitting games had a nice element of MBV rippyoffyness, so i think the band is capable of greater goals than a top ten clapoldy homage

Snow Patrol - Run

Good to see them getting some recognition. on reflection final straw isnt as good as when its all over..., but hopefully they wont have to support bands like athlete after this single...

Snow Patrol - Run

Can't see what the fuss is about myself. Hardly a surprise to see the time-honoured "sounds like Coldplay" jibe being whipped out, but - to be honest - at least Coldplay have tunes. It's harmless enough, I suppose, but from what I'd read I was expecting something really fragile and ethereal, not dull.

Still, this is the only thing of theirs I've actually heard, so I won't judge them too soon.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

See now that'd what I first thought about the song when I first heard it, that it was boring. But after a few plays, it has really grown on me and its fragilness really shines through.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

Forget Run, get yorself a copy of One Night is Not Enough from somewhere.

not that im suggesting you "fight the law" and download it...

Snow Patrol - Run

Agree with Smileadelic. Theyre just an average indie band. Run isnt too far from being good but it lacks something and Spitting Games was just poor. I cant understand why people are liking them. Theyre boring and uninteresting. Theres no personality to them.

Snow Patrol - Run

Shocker! Charted at number 5.... I mean, I know it doesn't really mean much with single sales these days, but having lain in absolute obscurity for so long, it's a huge change for snow patrol! Anyway.. beating Pinks new release can't be bad!

Snow Patrol - Run

what the hell is wrong w/ sum of u guys? snow patrol's run is fuckin brilliant.

Re: Snow Patrol - Run

snow patrol's track run is fukin ace !!!

Snow Patrol - Run

I think you can insult it as being Coldplay rip-off and all that.

But the fact of the matter is it's a deserved number 5. And I can't imagine many bands on this site get number 5.

Oh, and some people are never satisfied.

Snow Patrol - Run

and An Olive Grove Facing the Sea, that is far better than Run.

Snow Patrol - Run

Just thought I'd voice my opinion. I reckon Run is fantastic track, I'll definitely be getting the single. Not the album however, listened to my m8's copy and their other stuff seems a bit pants. Only other one I like is some thing about How to be Dead. That's quite nice.

Snow Patrol - Run

Everyone's entitiled to their opinion and in mine Snow Patrol are brilliant... get yourself to one of the gigs on their own tour in March and let yourself be blown away by how amazing they are live!!!

the coldplay comparison is starting to grate though.... as much as i like coldplay, snow patrol have been around longer and the rest of the album final straw is nothing really like coldplay's stuff.

I highly recommend checking them out.... the current and the back catalogue stuff and then go on to the reindeer section it's utterly brilliant aswell:D

Snow Patrol - Run

Run is absolutely awesome. Final. Why a few people are slagging it off I'll never understand.

Snow Patrol - Run

The thing is, even if you hate Run but like Snow Patrol's other stuff, is the success Run has had justified in your view if it means more people discover Snow Patrol's back catalogue and other material. Maybe the Reindeer Section? Or do you think people who like Run don't deserve to, because they like the song you dislike?

I think Run's a great song, for the record.

Snow Patrol - Run

Gee, I don't know .... could you make a review of the album that gives the unfamiliar reader the SLIGHTEST FUCKING CLUE as to what the band is all about? Too much to ask?

Real good review.

Problem w/ Run

Hi,

Here's my problem. I have 3 friends who, like myself, love this song. But our interpretations of its meaning vary from leaving a girlfriend to eloping to giving a child up for adoption. Any insights????? THANKS

my insight:

you're a loser. songs have whatever meaning you want to ascribe to them, you can't be "wrong" per say.

She is dying

When I hear this song, I think of: A young couple after a car crash in a remote place. The crash was his fault (speeding doing a winding mountain road). She's lying on the ground mangled and barely alive. He's in better shape and feels compelled to find help.

He tells her that he must go but she insists that he stay there with her. "Slower...slower... we don't have time for that." "Your bound to be afraid even for a few days." He knows he has or else they will both die but he knows there is a good chance she will die while he's gone. "We'll run for our lives." She is the one who dies and leaves him.

Feel free to disrespectfully disagree.

Please restrict your use of profanity

No need to get your pants in a ruffle. It is just a song.
