So, have you finally come to terms with your true indie self? Got bored with all that distressed denim and those Led Zep records? Good. Now, we assume that you've all gone and fallen in love with The Stills, and their own brand of shimmering, epic guitar idolatry, so perhaps a little home-based hors d'oeuvre ?

The Open are from that great Northern lineage of big, bold wide-eyed tunes. In the case of 'I Close My Eyes', their tune is beyond epic. It's monumental. Mountainous. Unscaleable.

Monolithic and magnificent, it rings of Verve and Teardrop Explodes and all the bands in between. Perfectly comprised of surging choruses, swathing guitars and fist clenched vocals, it's an infectious feeling that makes you want to stand on top of your own windswept hill.

The dots may not be fully joined just yet, the watercolour not yet a Monet, but they're close...

Good song, very good song, and although the b-sides are very average indeed, the quailty of 'Close My Eyes' makes up for it.

The Open - I Close My Eyes

To Sean,
I think with time you will really come to appreciate the b-sides of 'close my eyes'. Both 'shadows on the wall' and 'brown paper bag' have a ceratin etheral magnificance and are heavy with ambition, sentiment and scope.
As well as those 'Getaway' and 'The View' from the vinyl editions reveal a band of prolific thouroughness not seen since the glory days of Oasis singles.

TERRIBLE

i just wasted the last 2 minutes 53 seconds listening to this pile of 1987 worshipping wet shit extravaganza. the terror is similiar to that felt by a bird crapping on a tit.

yeah, so we would like to go to Virgin Megastore and find the rare b-sides by Cutting Crew and cover them. Then we can have The Open (Ass).

I don't think he writes for DiS. I think he's very single-minded about his masturbation and wouldn't allow something as pathetic as prose come between the relationship twixt hand and penis.

The lead singer is rather nice.
