Almost exactly a year after it was initially released and DiS trumpted that 'Everybody's Changing' was a brilliant record, 'Everybody's Changing' is released again; this time with everybody else trumpeting that it's a brilliant record.

You've probably already heard it a top-ten stuffing amount of times, so it seems disingenious to tell you that it's a piano-based stormer with the sort of pearling key chimes that take lodge in your head and heart. But we will. We also said in our previous review; " 'Everybody's Changing' is a shimmering, electronic-laden ballad that sounds like it was crafted in a velvet-clad keyboard laboratory, run by a honey-voiced, Thom Yorke-esque genius."

And we stand by that.

Keane - Everybody's Changing

keane have snookered the indie community into believing that they were this tiny little indie band, now they have grown into this horrible pop monster it looks stupid to slag them off.
just have to wait to the next album.

Keane - Everybody's Changing

KEANE are nothing more than a West-End, show-tunes songwriting team (a la Lloyd-Webber) masquerading as Indie-boys come good. For Christ's sake, their music actually pre-figures rock'n'roll and sounds as anachronistic as white dog turd. They're producing Pop music for Pop fans and their saccharine Pop sensibility has no right dallying in the arena of Alternative music. Go write a musical... Euuggh!

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

Theres nothing wrong with pop music - well good pop music anyway. Why is 'indie' somehow more credible?

They're not mascquerading as anything either, in interviews I've read, they've not petended to be anything they're not (living the rock n roll lifestyle, 'indie boys come good' etc). I don't think they'd proclaim themselves to be 'alternative' either. How the media try to bracket them is not their problem.

From what I've heard they make good (in my opinion) pop music and don't try to dress it up as anything else. No, they're not trying to revolutionise the musical scene, but they've never said they were. If thats something you're looking for in a band you should look elsewhere.

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

Ha! Just read your user profile and it makes it even worse. Are yours perhaps the most hypocritical comments ever?

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

Well actually no; I stand by what I wrote. I hate scenes, and not only are KEANE trying to hop onto the nearest passing wagon, but their music is deeply, nay profoundly, dull. 'Pop' music can be a wonderful thing - 'Toxic', 'Crazy in Love', 'Hey Ya' - and is at it's best when it's at it's smartest by borrowing elements from all over the shop. Ergo, great Pop music is essentially Modernist and doesn't adhere to formulae or genres.
And Keane? Well they're just nice boys from Battle with a penchant for the softer side of melody.

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

you sound like youd be interested in the 'why is pop music still around' thread on the other forum. keane id say are indie pop.
''sounds as anachronistic as white dog turd'' that made me laugh, most of all because i dont undestand what anachronistic means at this moment in time, and how does something sound like a white dog turd?

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

Yeah, about that "sounds as anachronistic as white dog turd" thing. Meant to write "is as anachronistic..." - that makes a lot more sense. Anyway, as for 'Indie Pop', well you can label things all you want but it will never justify bare-faced mediocrity.

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

'not only are KEANE trying to hop onto the nearest passing wagon'

Didn't they release singles in essentially the same style back in 2000? The wagon must be taking a long time to pass

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

Their single Everybody's Changing was not their first release - they previously released a single in February 2000 and June 2001 on their own Zoomorphic label.
dunno if they were the same style then, or if they were under a different name.

Keane - Everybody's Changing

they just get on my fucking nerves.

first time you hear their stuff u think, great - that's really nice.

then radio 1 get it and now it's about as annoyin as a song that'll get on your nerves.

they still need a guitarist too.

Re: Keane - Everybody's Changing

no they don't.

shush.

Keane - Everybody's Changing

The point is
Keane aren't indie
Nor do they pretend to be
And there ain't much better pure pop out there at the moment.
Sorry guys.
