Muse: Sing For Absolution

The whipping inferno of Muse's monstrous, operock tail is tickling god's arse and setting cathedrals across the land on fire. 'Sing For Absolution' is the sound of church bells crying and a thousand ambulances falling from the sky. Each one contains the wretched carcass of a different band Muse have devoured amid their feverish creative lust: Queen, Rachmaninov, System Of A Down and of course InMe. It's a hypnotising piece of psalm metal from Britain's rock monarchy.

Showbiz was patchy and too Radiohead-copyist

Origin....patchy

Absolution...still a bit patchy, but the songs are the best yet.

showbiz does NOT sound radiohead-ish. That was the standard lazy critic's comparison at the time. All albums are patchy, yes, but Muscle museum has to be their best song by a way.....

Absolution is fucking wicked. This song bugs me a bit, but I think thats just cos the video is so shit.

I mean, the copy can't be better then the original, right?
So, as muse is by far much better than radiohead, it can't be a copy

Absolution is a terrible terrilble album, apart from a couple songs which are rather good. OOS and Showbiz are much better. Muscle Museum is still their best song by far. ;d

well, i have to disagree .
Indeed I found Absolution a little more commercial, but this doesn't mean it is terrible. I happen to like it very much--it's true, less then the previous albums, although it has some really great songs

Until this point I rubbished every single Radiohead comparison that came up in relation to Muse. There is nothing remotely similar about the way the two groups approach and perform their music and to make such a comparison could rightly be branded as extraordinarily lazy journalism.

That said..."Sing For Absolution" does actually sound quite a lot like Laughin' Thom and his Oxford Merrymen, so I guess things have changed...

Ok, you're right about the two bands not beeng similar, so it's a nonsense to make any comparison between them.

I understand you don't like Sing for Absolution. Do you like Ruled By Sacrecy?

No, I do like "Sing For Absolution" - I don't think it's a particularly great single but it is a good song. Just saying it sounds like Radiohead is all, which I don't think any of their other stuff does even remotely. Anyways, take a look at my profile - I'm a pretty massive Radiohead fan so the comparison wasn't meant to be derogratory :)

And yeah, "Ruled By Secrecy" is pretty good stuff - I still think the album as a whole is inferior to "Origin of Symmetry", but only just.

I couldn't say that Absolution is 'inferior' to the previous albums.It's just that it's a bit diffrent (in my opinion more commercial- in others, on the contrary). But this doesn't necessary make it inferior.Actually I think I like it just as much.

So, you're a Radiohead fan :)
What do You think of Exit music? I just love it.
