Do Me Bad Things: The Song Rides

The Dublin Castle isn't known for producing superstars. Granted it helps along its fair share of leather trouser wearing punks or my bloody valentine swearing t-shirt indie boys achieve that 'indie' deal. But never like this.
Do Me Bad Things. 27/4/04.
I fell in love.
They were the all day breakfast of the UK rock n roll scene. Everything you wanted on one plate, in one place.
And now it's on record, screaming grit, bleeding popstar and raining doo wop.

The story:
There was once a plan, a conspiracy if you like. Songs were becoming too political and too long for the radio. But the government had difficulty stopping it. They tried herding in the pesky drug dealers, cowboys and songsmiths but nothing happened.
So they created DMBT.
Then they let them write three of the most inspired rock creations, laced them with firecracker rocket paint and sent them on a journey to Archway via Croydon.

'The Song Rides':
Lost Slayer riffs were resurrected with that soft female angle, Axl Rose was replaced by Robbie Williams and the drummer was designed to keep up.

'That's My Demographic':
Mark Lanagen had trouble with his voice. Because it was stolen and bettered by the bad things. It was then plastered against some slides by Iggy Pop.

'Burn Some Money':
The female touch adds class. It adds pop. Doo wop singers will be so hot right now when you discover the bad things. Don't think the Bell Rays, think a Tina Turner you'd want to shag while smoking her rock crack stash. Choruses will never be the same again. Bands will need to improve.

The man tremendous mike (obe) has once again discovered the band that we all want. There will be no surprise here; this will of course explode. Magazines will have to fit nine bad things on their covers; radio will have to cram nine bad things into their recording booths; TV should be fine - plenty of space. This is special.
Done.
Innit.

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

what - so they're a nine piece?

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

yes.
two revolving male lead singers.
three doo woop singers.
two guitarists.
a bassist.
and a drummer.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

this band is very silly.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

they make the darkness look...

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

The Do Me Bads are not silly, they are pure unalloyed FUN. They take life seriously enough to appreciate the importance of enjoying it to the full. By submitting completely to their love of music they disseminate joy. But the written word is an unworthy substitute to seeing them live and experiencing this for yourself.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

yes.
but who is your favourite of the singers? that is the question.
is it the camp skinny one?
or the ugly brickie?
the latter seemed to have the better songs.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Camp skinny one. His dancing and costume changes were classic, plus I'm not too big a fan of growling. The thin one (Nicolai) has got the strongest voice I've heard in a long time, and also did the highest note I have ever witnessed..... I love them.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

It's a definite three horse race that's for sure, although for me the wonderfully dubbed Chantal Delusional (best nom de plume in rock - fact) wins by a pair of lungs. The penultimate song in the Do Me Bads set last night saw them turn out a ballad, with Chantal taking centre stage and it was awesome. Listening to Chantal sing is like having an invisible hand squeezing your heart.. you can't help but feel it.

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

seen em already and the best thing to say is rage against the commitments!!

genius or rubbish, wasn't quite sure..

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

This review. Is not funny. In fact
Its fucking annoying
Must remember to avoid this.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

I second that. However good the band are, the review is a bag of arse.

Rage against the Commitments - Nice.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

i didnt even realise this review was for a single. I thought it was some rambling piece about how great the band is...i am confused. although the phrase "rage against the commitments" has cleared my mind a bit - how can they possibly be any good?

or are we talking darkness "good"?

explain please.

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

I saw these on the same bill as Kasabian and The Mooney Suzuki. They are the worst band I have even seen! if you wanna go to a gig and have a laugh fair enough they're the band for you. And it's all well and good having music and humour; if that's your thing check out the Mooney Suzuki, they have some tunes, style and no mingers in the background! Oh, and the drummer does some break dancing!

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Whilst I'm not into repeating myself, I feel I must:

This band is SILLY.

Like Monty Python silly.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

"if that's your thing check out the Mooney Suzuki, they have some tunes, style and no mingers in the background!"

no, they've just got King Ming singing. He looks like a wolfman with his new hairy face.

i like This Song Rides quite a lot. the B-sides are atrocious, though.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

TMS are good musicians tho :p

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Sometimes you just wonder why a band even bothers existing. Not only are this lot SILLY, but they have minging GIRL singers....I can't believe it quite frankly. A disgrace and insult to those of us that create sincere, SERIOUS and passionate music.

What do Monty Python sound like? Anygood? Rock/Punk?

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Watch out - this guy's got an ACOUSTIC guitar! Eeeeee!

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

check you out, Mr Sincere Serious And Passionate!

judging by your capitalisation of the words 'silly' and 'serious', i can only assume that your problem with the 'girls' isn't that they're minging (which they don't appear to be in real life) its that they're GIRLS (oh the horror. girls in a band! how terrible for poor little you. the weight of virginity must press heavy upon your shoulders).

i've seen the Do Me Bad Things a few times live and would like to point out that while it does look from their photo and the things that they say that they may not be entirely serious, the music tells a very different story.
they rock hard, but they've got great melodies and the musicianship is way above average (you strike me as someone to whom that sort of thing is important, Mr Passionate).

as for Monty Python. excellent. definately more punk than rock. singer Junk Cleese left to form The Fawlty Towers but died soon after by choaking on his own Spam.
(did you know the internet is the most powerful research tool in the known universe? no. thought not)

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Hey Clampy. Tom from DMBT here. I just wanted to say that you're comments about Clare, Chantal and Kimberley are absolutely disgusting. To discover that there are abhorrent sexist scumbags like you around is equally appalling and disturbing. I couldn't care less if you don't care for our music but I won't stand for your objectifying of the individuals in my band.

Regards

Tom

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Come on 'TOM', you can't really be serious about this shit. I am not an 'abhorrent sexist scumbag' but I do think that if there are to be be girls in a band they should at least serve the purpose of being remotely attractive. As for the music, I've heard the affore mentioned single and have to say that it has to be the worst example of overblown bile I've heard in a long time. Maybe a little more concentration on the craftmenship if the songs is in order.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Come on.. it IS overblown.
Silly... just silly.
Like I already said.
As serious as jelly, and that's no food!

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

'they should at least serve the purpose of being remotely attractive'

you fucking twat

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

did someone really just refer to the Mooney Suzuki singer guy as 'King Ming'??

hahahahahahahaha.

the Mooney Suzuki are the most stupid looking bunch of ugly fancy dress victims i've ever had the luxury of walking out on after half a song.
if that guy carrys on sticking his finger in the air in that dumb way it'll drop off.

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Fucking right. Never take the fucking Mooney Suzuki away with you - they cause you to rip your own hair out. Not even a one nite stand I tell ya!!! They could do with a SERIOUs attitude adjustment.

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Hey Clampy what are you still doin here??!! I thought I kicked yr hate-pedaling ass off this board!!! I guess as long as it keeps you off the streets.....

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

A few days ago I was watching a music channel and caught the 2nd half of 'The Song Rides' video. Managed to jot down band name and went searching on the web. Ended up here!
For what it's worth, I can't get enough of DMBT! I am waiting for the cd/vinyl to turn up in the post - but listening to the XFM studio session over and over!
I like to think I have reasonably eclectic musical tastes - and DMBT mix these seamlessly all in one song – marvellous!!
I would love to see them live, but need to win over a few friends first!

Keep up the good work DMBT - especially with a full studio album please!!

Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Ah man. I believe the purpose of the girls is to sing...
I don't think there's anything silly about Do Me Bad Things. My first impression on seeing them a few months ago was that you can't get bored when there are 3 singers all taking on their own individual style to the songs they are singing. So i went to see them again. After a few more gigs, i started recognising the songs, and i found myself going away singing them to myself. The more DMBT have played the more they have grown into their set, the more impressive they are to watch. They've taken criticism and they've taken praise and they've built on it. Each time i see them they just blow me away that little bit more.

I don't see The Darkness connection myself apart from the obvious Must Destroy link, but one thing i will say is that The Darkness took a lot of shit for being a joke and were as serious as anything, they worked hard and they proved the cynics wrong, can't we learn from that and allow bands who are doing something a little bit different and a little bit more creative than the run of the mill boring template bands, get on with it and show us what they're made of?

Re: Do Me Bad Things - The Song Rides

Look, i might be 6 months behind on this message but i'm going to reply anyway......
I do not understand how you can say that girls have to be attractive to be in a band? Isn't the point of a band to make good music? Chantal, Clare and Kimberley are all really pretty and extremely good singers, so what are you going on about? I quote... 'serve the purpose of being remotely attractive'?!!!! .... obviously you dont appreciate music for what it is...
I think that your comments are riduculous and you obviously havent got a clue...
And besides... where the fucks your band??!!!!!
