Sons and Daughters: Johnny Cash

It's fitting that the Glaswegian country quartet Sons & Daughters are the first band to have produced a tribute to Johnny Cash: their shared sense of noir is a strong bond indeed.

And while some of the more confused members of the British Press may have described them as 'Glaswegian Americana with a post punk edge' (oh, lets go for the Franz Ferdinand dollar, that's such a good market right now. Sheesh), they simply have the same urge as The Man In Black - to unleash their primal howl in the manner they see most fitting. And in this case, it's through fantastic, unsettling, dark thudding countrified blues.

And anyway, they're much more Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Sons and Daughters - Johnny Cash

I happily nod along to this when I hear it. It's got that kinda thundering guitar tone I like. Might buy this...might not...

It was just on.
Blah.
Fairly nothing.

Sons and Daughters - Johnny Cash

Mmmm. Saw them at Reading, and was woozily impressed. Best use of fingerclick/handclap percussion combo I've seen onstage in, ooh, ever.

Note to self: must seek help re: Scottish indie fetish. Had another Elaine Graham dream last night...
