Feeder: Tumble And Fall

Feeder bloke Grant Nicholas has been seen hanging out with Chris Martin and Fran Healy (who, along with band mate Dougie Payne, ‘sings’ backing vocals here). Unsurprisingly then, Feeder’s new single ‘Tumble And Fall’, sounds exactly like Coldplay and Travis.

It’s also the most insipid thing Feeder have committed to record in quite some time. This is indie-guitar-‘rock’ by numbers with a bored sounding Nicholas yawning his way through some half arsed songwriting: ‘Together we crawl/ forever we’ll be/tumble and fall’. Mmm...

See, Feeder, like so many artists before them, have reached the comfort zone. They’ve sold a few units, made a few bucks, and can sell out aircraft hangers with ease. Gone is any drive or passion they ever had in the first place, with the likes of ‘Cement’ or even ‘Buck Rogers’ sounding like a distant memory. Sure there may be a good reason for that (do I really have to spell it out?) but surely Feeder are capable of doing better. Shame.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Agree 100% with this.
Its a shame really as I had a soft spot for Feeder once upon a time, but now they've landed head first in the bin marked Coldplay et al. Sad.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

the worst thing is that I think Idlewild have done that too - bugger

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

roddy's hair is slowly turning into mine.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I must admit to being concerned by the new idlewild single, although I still can't stop myself from singing along whenever I hear it. Damn

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

This is one of the worst songs I've heard for a very long time.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

FEEDER are still one of the great rock bands. Comfort In Sound was one of the most heart-wrencing and astounding albums ever. Have yet to hear the new album, surely it can't be as bad as the new Trail of Shit album.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

They's dreadful. One of the most unnecessary bands in rock music. And who needs a Foo Fighters-lite, Travis-aping, pilchard-sniffing Q band anyway?

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

The new ToD album is awesome, but it's not really aimed at people who liked Comfort In Sound. Differnt sub-genres, yo.

Seems im just one of the masses, Feeder used to be in my favorite bands, now they are in my least favorite. Ho hum.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

that message astounds me.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Feeder have always been shit, accept it!

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Terrible song, terrible album, terrible band. Well, they were amongst my favourite bands before the terrible terrible Comfort In Sound was released, and their most recent "effort" is just an extension of its utter... terribleness.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I too had a soft spot for Feeder...but this song's just crap. It's just...nothingness. The lyrics are vacuous, and not in an entertaining, perky, 'Tangerine' kinda way...just poor.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

true - agian, i've got to profes to having a soft spot for Feeder - the main problem they have is there is far too much filler on their later albums (actually, scratch that, all bar 'Polythene' and 'CIS') - lets just hope this is the worst of the new material

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I used to really like feeder they used to be my favourite band!! but I have to say that the songs ive heard recently by feeder are really crap one of the worst songs ive actually heard this year. I wasn't expecting feeder to turn like that the old stuff was excellent!! They don't suit being like coldplay maybe grant was hanging out with them too much...

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

You haven't heard much music this year have you?

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

yeh! course i have! i said "one of the worst songs this year" I've i can think of loads of rnb crap I've heard as well. And most of my time i listen to music that rocks! Why would I wanna waste my time listening to crap, but sometimes crap music just gets played around you, just cos someone else likes it.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Seems like one of the many who've gradually moved away from Feeder. Can't believe it was almost 2 years ago that I saw them live on the back of Comfort in Sound, which I thought was pretty good but they released the wrong singles. Now though, this makes me want to kill them.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I liked 'Comfort In Sound'. Thought most of it was actually quite affecting and genuine. This is just really boring, though.

I like ..Trail Of Dead. 'Q' said the new album was hit-and-miss so I take it it's a glorious masterpiece and near-perfect?

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

yeah i'm with the soft spot crew, except my soft spot is still there and probably always will be. this is due to the fact that feeder are the reason i'm in to the music that i'm into today, if i'd never discovered feeder, who knows where i'd be, i might be face down in a ditch or something. i really like this song, and whoever claims to like beautiful music must feel something when Grants voice goes all high when he sings "forever we'll be."
this song really deserves more than one star, monkey dude.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

'feeder are the reason i'm in to the music that i'm into today'

i guess i could say the same. they were one of the first bands i started going to see regularly. but there's no excusing this song, or indeed the output of the last two years. they were never a great band, but they were a good band with lots of energy and the potential to be better. those two qualities seem to have gone hurtling down the drain... thing is though, i don't think they care much anymore. they decided to sit back creatively, and they're doing it.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Alternatively, you could have been kicking som prog-metal stylies with me. I say pants to the effect on Feeder on your life. Pants.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I wasn't too keen on Comfort in Sound and think it's easily their worst album up to that point. Expectations were low then for the new stuff and when I heard this on MTV2 it really slammed home how far they've fallen.
BUT
Then I heard the album and I have to say it's a better album than CIS. Still way off early form though.

This song is a big mistake though and one I can't fathom. Not only is it the worst song on the album, it's one of the worst they've ever written.
If you're a Feeder fan and don't like this, you should give the album a try

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Feeder were one of the first bands I really got into as well, and I'm really sorry to see they're continuing in the bland vein of CiS (only the new record is far worse). The only tracks on the album that hint of the past greatness of Feeder are 'Pushing the Senses' and maybe 'Pilgrim Soul'. I was really hoping they'd come out and rock a bit harder...

I'm also pretty worried about Idlewild, as in the past three years three out of my five favourite bands have gone shite...

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I can't believe i ever liked this band. Even the really early material that everyone bangs on about sounds awful now.

Still that signed copy of their first album made me a nice £50 on ebay a while back.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I used to like Feeder when I was just starting to get into rock music (circa 2001). I sort of went off them after a while once I started to discover more impressive things. This single is really mediocre, I mean it has a decent melody and all but it's just so dull you know? At least stuff like Turn and High were pretty emotive even if they weren't exactly mindblowing songwriting.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

To be honest I've enjoyed watching Feeder grow from first support to headlining stages at Festivals over the years. They're a hard working band and deserve everything they have. I have to admit though that they are deep into the comfort zone, after the classy first two albums I think they're slowly winding down over time. Comfort in Sound is for sale in Littlehampton Tesco for £3 by the way.

I hope they've just had a dreadfull choice for first single from the album. They've definately put more people off hearing it then turned on new folks to themselves. Shame.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I think they could have picked a better song but there are plenty more on the album!

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Hardly like Buck Rogers was the most inspired piece of songcraft ever.

Still, at least was a tune.

Feeder somehow overstep the cringe-factor to the point where people don't notice and just accept it. Weird world.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

"but there's no excusing this song, or indeed the output of the last two years" - well... forgetting the death of a band member.

Feeder were also the band that got me into music as I am today; the likes of Cement, High, YWTS, Insomnia and even Buck Rogers and Turn etc (afterall, they were the songs that helped give 'my' band the success they had long deserved) still send a tingle down my spine whenever I hear them. I too was disappointed at CIS, though it still had 3 or 4 songs on I consider among my favourites, the new album I'll pass judgement on after I've listened to it a few times. Grant is just writing what comes naturally to him at the time, like he says, he can't force out a heavy song just for the sake of it. Feeder will always get criticised for releasing slower songs now because of their past releases, but if you look at the first 3 albums the single releases were almost 50-50 slow/upbeat anyway...

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

descend on polythene was/is my favourite feeder song . ..
i saw this on T4 and hmm, sounds like coldplay but even mellower
a little boring on the very first impression.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

This is a totally amazing song and I reccommend anyone whos into rock music to buy this single the B sides are absolutely amazing....More information at www.tumbleandfall.tk or www.feederweb.com !!!!! Check it out people!

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Thank you Mr. Streetteam

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

I get over the breaks,
But sometimes, i tumble and fall...

Feeder - Tumble And Fall

Is an album review coming up on here?

Disappointed

I was so disappointed with this song, and the new album. I've lover everything Feeder have done before this and enjoyed watching them chage and progress over the years, but they've gone too far now. There are one or two passable songs on 'Pushing the senses' such as 'broken glass', 'pilgrim soul' and 'tender', but a return to something a bit more like 'sweet16' would be more than welcome. Sad really.
