A more apt title for 'Work', the second single off Jimmy Eat World's latest album, could be 'Business As Usual'. It's the sort of thing the Arizona quartet have done many times before, which may explain why, musically at least, they're bloody good at it.

A jangly riff over syrupy bass and drums backdrops Jimmy Adkins' sincere vocals for a couple of verses until the power chords arrive for the bridge and the chorus. Before you realise the lyrics themselves are pretty vague in places (and just plain naff in others), the band are harmonising a round of "ooooh-ooooh-ooooh"s you may be tempted to sing along with.

This is the power-ballad that emo built. Perfect for gazing out of the window at the lass who lives across the street who you haven't worked up the courage to talk to yet, or the montage of shots that end an episode of The OC where all the characters are either hugging, or crying or deeply reflecting on just what it means to be beautiful and rich and stuff.

Jimmy Eat World - Work

Not the best song off 'Futures'...but I'm still liking it. Seeing them on Wednesday for my birthday. They'd better be good or I will despise them for making me miss the Blood Brothers forever.

Jimmy Eat World - Work

My favourite off Futures, this is such a fucking great song. That chorus is toweringly brilliant.

Jimmy Eat World - Work

Tis good.

They cancelled when i went to see them.

Jimmy Eat World - Work

...my god this is a fucking good song. and a fucking good band.

look ^ i swore, thats how good this band/song is.

Jimmy Eat World - Work

Still not amazed by Futures in the way that Static Prevails, Bleed america and the classic clarity ordered amazement

Jimmy Eat World - Work

This was fantastic at the Astoria last week, Jimmy Eat World are never going to be the most mind-blowing band ever but they write great pop-rock songs with memorable choruses.

work

It's nothing out of the ordinary, but it's a beautiful beautiful song :)
