Who wants to hear a story? No one? Then skip this paragraph. Six months ago I attended an Ed Harcourt concert with a friend. I wasn’t expecting much. When the support band waddled on stage armed with little more than acoustic guitar and glockenspiels I expected even less, yet five minutes later I was swaying like a retarded sailor, my ears filling with the aural equivalent of the purest honey. That band was The Magic Numbers. Through the whole set I gazed slackjawed at the stage, finding it hard to believe that this beautiful sound was coming from this ‘less than petite’ bunch. I knew in around six months time I would be hearing the music of The Magic Numbers a lot more. But I couldn’t have predicted how underwhelmed I would be.

Whilst The Magic Numbers live show melts the heart with the raise of a voice and a single strum of a guitar this single misses the mark by a considerable amount, the three part harmonies and happy-go-sickly guitar riff/s bringing to mind The Beautiful South at their most... shit. It could be said that ‘Love Me Like You’ is quintessentially a classic summer feel-good track, but amidst the hurricanes and threat of more terrorist attacks is it really what we need? Yes? Oh. But if that’s true then get Hal to re-release 'Worry Bout The Wind', a track that's similar but many times more enjoyable. You really can’t appreciate The Magic Numbers on record, especially on this, one of their weakest tracks. But do believe the hype of their live shows, and catch them while you can still get close enough to smell the barbecue sauce on their shirts.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

I like this song a lot and I don't care.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

Chuffing HAL more enjoyable than The Magic Numbers?

Everything about bands like The Thrills and HAL gives me an urge for homicide, but these lot are sublime. Even Brian Wilson says so. You arguing with Brian Wilson? He'll have yer!

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

Watcha gonna do? Tell him who to fight via his autocue?

I'm still undecided about this song, it just kinda meanders without affecting me. But I still know it's a damn site better than fuckin Hal. But then so it the sound of my flushing toilet...

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

haha :)
as i said in the review i was blown away by the band live, i just really hate this single.
'wheels on fire' is a beautiful song though.
single before this wasnt bad either.

and come on, you dont really hate 'worry 'bout the wind' do you? yeh all the rest of the tracks sink to Dodgy-like levels of pointlessness but that ones a classic.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

HAL were so much more enjoyable than the bland-out known as the Magic Numbers on their February tour. But the Magic Numbers are promising contenders for Worst Band Of The Decade award. If there was one. They are rubbish, all their songs are rubbish, all their fans are rubbish, their very essence is rubbish. So piss off! :D

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

Jordan is spot on. Worry About The Wind is a classic. But I'm not sure about re-releasing it since I'm generally against re-releases. Futuremore I'm not sure Jordan agrees but HAL are many many times better than The Magic Numbers. TMN are still okay though!

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

Probably the worst band ever.

Re: The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

You give Razorlight and the Stereophonics 4/5

Your opinion counts slightly less than the average sheep

I don't really like them btw...

Re: The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

yeah I'm afraid he's got you there.
As for this one, well it's not as good as the last single is it. I'd rather listen to kings of convenience or am60 myself

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

i have to agree with them being great live. i've never been fussed about this band but seeing them live was great, didn't make me wanna buy the album though. i think this song's ok, nothing special though.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

The magic Numbers should be exactly the type of band i love, yet i too feel utterly underwhelmed by the music. They bore me. I dunno. i kinda feel like people at large want them to be great as opposed to them actually being great. To me they sound as dull as the beautiful south on a good day.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

The Magic Numbers...hmm...well call me superficial, but i was put off them just b/c of their name, it reminds me of a certain advert..i am trying to look pass this tho.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

I'd agree with the review, they are really good live. I saw them supporting Brian Wilson and they were excellent but on record they just don't seem up to much. I think it's because their songs are too long, they would be fine if it was 2:30 - 3:00 minute pop songs but they seem to drag. Forever lost is pretty good though.

Re: The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

I like them. They're fat and jolly. I like to see a band eat. Not like that Peter chap from that cockney band. He's all skin and bones.

One of them looks like a fat Naeve Cam(p?)bell.
