Boy Kill Boy: Civil Sin

Having been courted by every major label for several months now, Boy Kill Boy finally get the chance to let everyone know what all the fuss is about.

With May's limited edition Fierce Panda release already being snapped up for silly money on Ebay, 'Civil Sin', their first general release, is undoubtedly the stand-out of their increasingly enthralling live set.

Coming on like a 21st Century Supergrass if they'd rediscovered their zest and passion (and Duran Duran's 'Rio') without resorting to carbon copied cheesiness, 'Civil Sin' is the undisputed sound of an unashamed past injecting life into a complacent present to create an exciting future.

But that's not all folks, as, like many great artists before them, Boy Kill Boy also have a killer b-side literally, with the mad-dash-go-for-it! pomp stomp of 'Killer' sounding like the score for 'Beverley Hills Cop' if it were re-written and filmed in Peckham.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Haha, I have a demo from back when they were Future Of Junior, so let's hope they continue to skyrocket, eh? \m/

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

The singer sounds like an older version of the guy from InMe.
Believe.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

does anyone else get scared by the singers eyes? i'm almost certain he is evil...

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Had a copy of the promo cd for Fierce Panda.
I gave it.
Distinctly under-average.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

by "silly money" do you mean £4.99?
i think fierce panda still have copies in stock.... so more fool the ebay twits.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

A mate of mine paid £17 for it off ebay! Honestly. But he's from Mansfield so I guess he should be pitied rather than derided...

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Every Major label???? i dont think so..
This tune is awful.... Suzie was ok in a Killers from Camden novelty way.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Since when was Virgin a major label?
I'd ask your bosses who the big boys are...

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

"Since when was Virgin a major label?"

Since it got sold to EMI over 10 years ago or something.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

So then it's a subsidiary?

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

more of a division..

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Sorry Harry.
I guess your lot were looking for the new Stereophonics instead!

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Um ....you fuckin idoits how can you call a label who sold 34 million albums with the Spice Girls not a major label?you fools...
If Virgin is not a major then neither is Parlaphone, Island, Mercury, Capitol, fuck me... go do some learning.
And as for Sterophonics whats the fuck you talkin about....? thats V2 you plum.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

V2...Virgin...one and the same.
PLUM.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

... no they're not. Despite the name, Virgin Records is owned by EMI. Branson sold it years and years ago.

V2 is, I think, owned by Branson, but a completely seperate company. It's not counted as a major, more a large indie.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Er.... Dom From Nottingham....
who writes for D.I.S..... SORT IT OUT BROTHER!!!... god bless ya.....
V2 and And Virgin are complety and utterly differnt and if you need me to explain this to you..... then god help us if your gonna be a music journalist of the future...
Dont be so lazy, do your homework.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

So are you saying that V2 is not part of the Virgin group of companies? When it is.
I think its you that needs to do the homework pal, starting with some research into the background of the company you work for.
And as for me, I have no desire to be "a music journalist of the future" as my current day job takes care of all my subservient needs thankyouverymuch.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

iv got a promo of this ... pretty good little band, should hopefully see some success

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Haha you joker... thank goodness for that.

What i am saying to you is.....
VIRGIN RECORDS has NOTHING to do with the Virgin Group
VIRGIN RECORDS IS part of the E.M.I. group.
Like shady adie delightfuly explained to u, it was sold over 10 years ago. 1993 to be exact.
While on the other hand V2 Records IS part of the Virgin Group and was started in 1996.
3 years after Virgin was sold.
So how on earth can they be the same thing?
I hope you understand now because i cant be bothered anymore to explain something so simple.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

And for a moment you actually thought I gave a shit...oh well...NEXT.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Why did you keep arguing the point then, Dom?

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Because my point was RIGHT.
V2 IS part of the Virgin group of companies.
http://www.virgin.com/uk/default.asp

I rest my case.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

I love this dude.... a least know now init!... But.... yeah...Word...NEXT.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

And if anyone can translate that last post into English I'll give them a tenner!

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

OH MY GOSH!
THATS IS WHAT I AM SAYING!!
I DO NOT WORK FOR V2 RECORDS!!!
VIRGIN RECORDS IS'NT PART OF THE VIRGIN GROUP!!!!!
V2 IS!!!!!!
VIRGIN RECORDS IS PART OF THE EMI GROUP!!
AHRHRHRHRHRHRHRHGGGGG. COLIN... HELP THIS BOY OUT!!!!

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

So basically you work for EMI.
Why couldn't you just say that from the start?
BOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Yep explaing all that to you was....
Please say you'v rested that case now yeah..... please say you have please...dont lie to me this time...please.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Didn't thought a Boy Kill Boy review could get so more replies.

Oh, but nearly none of them are about the actual quality ( or lack thereof ) of the song...

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Dom you are actually completely wrong.

Virgin records was bought by EMI a while ago, Branson
was badly in debt (i think something to do with the airline)
and started V2 to keep his hand in the music industry because
thats where he started as an entreprenuer.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Ed

I'm not completely wrong.
V2 is part of the Virgin Group of Companies.
If you can PROVE that statement to be wrong, then fine, I'll accept I'm wrong.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Yeah, but you're using the fact that what you said intially was pretty vague to try and show that you're right. Cheater ;-)

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Not at all.
V2 is part of Virgin in the same way that Royal Mail is part of the Post Office.
If Mr Lloyd-Jones wants to make some nondescript point about who his employers are then I suppose he should really be on here defending EMI, as they are the people paying his wages.
As for the rest of his nonsensical post, it just stinks of sour grapes because his label missed out on one of the hottest new bands to come out of the UK this year.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

"V2...Virgin...one and the same"

Was your orginal point mate, with reference to
Virgin records the label NOT the organisation
- so yes, you are.

Neither me or Mr Virgin employee bloke are telling you
V2 is not a Virgin company as it blantantly is.

Whats worse is your attitude towards the fella though,
like your some kind of mercenary anti-corporate warrior
defending DiS against Virgin Records ffs, its just plain
immature and rude - especially for a prominent DiS journalist.

Read through Mr Lloyd-Jones posts and then tell me who was being immature and rude.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

On the other hand tho - pretty good review for a pretty fine tune.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

hahah. oh dear. dom. shush!!!

i personally REALLY like this band. oh well. 'last of the great...' is my fave i think.

this has been an entertaining bitchfest tho.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Go check out Tera Tora.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Ex-Murder Of = brilliant by my book.

Good call.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

"Dom Go AWAY! You are makeing your self look like the biggest fool"

A fool maybe, but at least I'm one who can spell and write in a grammatically correct way, unlike someone I could mention...(Rolls eyes skywards).

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

I've always respected you Dom, enjoyed your writing and been grateful at everything you've contributed, but this is just really low. Just because you were wrong about something in an argument, you stoop to mocking someone for the presentation of their words on an internet message board.

I can't understand where all this negativity flowed from and I just hope that we can all get along a bit better.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

The negativity flowed from several of H_TOWN's initial posts yesterday, but you're right, one should not get so wound up!

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Dom got it wrong
H_TOWN was a complete nobhead about it

So poo off all of ya's.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Trust me the new single sounds amazeing!

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

hmmm back to the point boy kill boy are wicked...and yes the lead singer does look very evil, in a kind of clockwork orange kind of way i think - especially when he's peeking out at you from under that hat...

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

love it or loath it, this band are going to be huge next year. I love it. Great production by the legendary Stephen Street (Kaiser's, Blur, Smiths....).

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

uh - how i love their songs -

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Both this and 'suzie' are fantastic tunes.

Am eagerly awaiting a uk toilet tour.

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

i've not heard actually heard any off their stuff but the song "suzie" was written about a girl i met at uni (who is, unsurprisingly, also called suzie!) who i have now become really good friends with, and shes really very close to the band so i'm thinking when they become big (as has been suggested above) maybe i can get some copies of the earlier stuff and other promo crap that i can flog to the young fools on ebay and make my millions.......come on kids buy into the hype, do it!

Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

I bought this single today on a whim...Very unimpressed...Sounds like a Placebo/Suede b-side...
H_TOWN, were you wanking off whilst reeling off that list of your employer's achievements? It would explain the errors that litter much of your post...Are you an Ali G fan?

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

his employer's achievements? h_town is a&r, dude.

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Woo! Woops, can I remove the word 'employers' from my last post? Anyway, congratulations Mr Fat Cat...nme likes your bands, hope they re-coup...

Re: Boy Kill Boy - Civil Sin

Sorry, that was an incredibly pissy post...I'll shut the fuck up now...I know, wanker...
