The Bloodhound Gang: Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

The quality of the Bloodhound Gang's single discs has been distinctly hit-and-miss. For every guilty pleasure they’ve rolled out like 'Fire Water Burn', they’ve banged out a distinctly forgettable chuck-away track like 'The Ballad Of Chasey Lane'. Unfortunately, 'Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo' (oh, my aching sides) falls into the latter category – with a resounding thud – and then continues falling.

Over a jaunty little riff, Jimmy Pop Ali rattles off a number of rather creative, if highly disgusting euphemisms for sticking the you-know-what you know where, and then drones the title of the track over power chords with a level of enthusiasm that sounds like he'd rather be in a coma than fronting a rock band.

It’s not just that this single is purile enough to make Jackass look like high art by comparison (I can take that), it’s that it's boring – skull crushingly, mind numbingly boring, and quite frankly that's a quality I never thought I’d associate with the Bloodhound Gang. It's almost as though they’ve become as fed up with their schtick as their detractors. There's nothing in this single to hang on to. No solo. No wicky wicky whacks. No pop culture references. No wit. No humour. Just a band sounding bored, tired and about as enthused to be here as they would be filing their year-end tax returns.

If you never liked this lot, 'Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo' (I’m wetting myself, really) is Exhibit A in your case against them, as it's just about as watertight an indictment as you can get. If you're a fan, you’ll know they’re capable of far better than this, and you'll join me in hoping that this single, like 'The Ballad Of Chasey Lane', is a misfire rather than representative of what's to come on their next full-length.

The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

I thought the rating for this single would be 1 less than the actual mark it got. Not heard it yet. I always thought Jimmy Pop was a great frontman tho. Probably wont buy the album.

Have a desire to listen to "I Hope You Die" really loud now.

The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

I must confess I REALLY like this song...

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

When they played the Garage years back at the time '....Beer Coaster' came out they were supremely entertaining. Jimmy Pop is a great frontman, and an even better lyricist, which means it's something of a shame when they put out knucklehead rubbish like this. I hope the rest of the record is better.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

i think this tune is actually FUCKING GREAT.
so there.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

Having now listened to the rest of the new album I can tell you this is the best song on it. Make of that what you will.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

The kid in me cant help but think It's funny. Dont think they're trying to make 100% 'serious' music here- so we shouldnt be taking it like that. They're using music to spread a fuckin great emotion-Laughing your ass off.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

I'm not over-enthused by this.

I just don't think it's as imaginative, witty or funny as "Wish I Was Queer...", "The Bad Touch", "Why's Everybody Always Picking On Me", "A Lapdance is so much better..." or any of their better songs.

The thing with the Bloodhound gang is they work when they're being offensive and funny and this just doesn't push themselves far enough.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

Do you really think they have the talent to do that?Dont think so! How can you be upset that this song isnt as 'good' as the other ones, when the band arent even that good (seriously) anyway?

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

I see your point and I'm not a huge BHG fan or anything but I do think, much as they try to hide it, there is genuine wit and intelligence behind their best moment but I just don't see it here.

"Do you really think they have the talent to do that?Dont think so! How can you be upset that this song isnt as 'good' as the other ones, when the band arent even that good (seriously) anyway?"

Umm - disagree with you there. Take a listen to One Fierce Beer Coaster - The BHG showcase more musical variety on that one dsic than most bands manage in their entire careers, and it came armed with a shedload of wit. Being funny is way harder than yelling about depression or the unfairness of the world IMHO. Sure, this band is never going to be heralded as truly great - but they have far more talent that their detractors give them credit for.

But F.U.C.K. just isn't up to the standard of their best work.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

That's exactly what I was trying to say, only put better.

Re: The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

"Charlie Kilo"?

Is that an anagram of rilo kiley?

The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

i get disappointed when the Bloodhound Gang do bad stuff :( did anyone hear Jimmy Pop's remix of Hash Pipe? it was genius. it could all be SO good, if only he took himself seriously like one day a week.

The Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

I agree with Man_I_Love_That_Rock_N_Roll and NickyC, the world has enough artists that keep me depressed, everytime I hear Foxtrot I laugh my ass off. Who cares if its not grammy material.
I dont want Jimmy Pop too take himself seriously, it just looks like he has a lot of fun doing what he does, while the other bands are on anti-depressent.

Well, thats my two cents.
