Probably - okay, definitely - the finest pop song from Death Cab's sadly lackluster Plans full-length, 'Soul Meets Body' is an obvious lead single. Its charms are such that further album sales are an absolute certainty; shame, then, that the aforementioned album doesn't maintain this level of quality throughout.

'Soul Meets Body' is classic Death Cab: creative core Ben Gibbard's tender, lovelorn lyrics that anyone over the age of ten can relate to coupled with the kind of shimmering indie-pop that a thousand imitators have failed to fully master. It's neither torch-raising ballad nor hop-friendly pop'n'rock, instead occupying the difficult middle ground between left-of-centre indie and daytime radio MOR. It says both everything to the listener and a whole lot of nothing at all, its perception entirely dependent on the type of ear bending its way. It's a great single, bascially.

However good this single is, though, that it's one sourced from a central vein yielding little else of value leaves a bitter aftertaste that lingers long after the sound of silence settles.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

I thought this was pants.

It sounds too contrived, it's trying really hard to be emotive. Ends up sounding a bit sickly.

bleh.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

i'm still loving the new album. i can't see what people are so down about with it. maybe it's just me.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

It's not just you - the new album has plenty of good songs.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

4 really stong songs

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

to be fair, how were they ever going to follow up transatlanticism? without some degree of disapointment

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

i haven't heard the album but this is quite disappointing. no where near as good as any of the 3 singles off transatlanticism.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

This song is fucking... brilliant. The first time I heard it I was pretty amazed how good it was... sounds silly. But yes, for the 90th time on DiS, Plans is brill in my view.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

I couldn't stand it for quite a while. Not because it was so bad, but just because it wasn't a usual DCfC song.
Now I love it. It's all worth it for the 'I don't believe it's true..' bit onwards.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

i love this song and even the video is alright.. but whats with Ben Gibbard's sudden E of Eels beard/hat/glasses combination? scary.

Death Cab For Cutie - Soul Meets Body

only song i've heard of theirs & it's great - reminds me of Prefab Sprout which is a good thing.
