Why won't I give you my love? Well, I like a comeback single to provide some example of musical evolution, and it helps if it sounds better than anything you've released before. Sorry, Dave and co, but this doesn't put a tick in either box.
Sure, it's a passable enough pop ditty, and I'd probably dance to it given enough stimulation, but I always had you guys down as a more-imaginative-than-many indie outfit and not merely a fly-by-night CD:UK sensation.
Perhaps I'm looking back with rose-tinted specs, but two years ago you had songs that were original - inventive, even - and this just seems so dull in comparison. Give me an extended saxophone solo or some Eastern-sounding guitar and I'm anybody's. For now, though, I'm going to be parting with neither my heart nor my cash...
it's notm just me then
I heard this on the radio 1st thing this morning and my reaction was pretty similar, I always gave the Zutons more credit than the usual indie crowd because I thought the music was one step ahead, and they where a nose in front. Take 'Pressure Point', you just can fabricate that kind of stuff. Good and edgy
You hear this, you know its the Zutons, you know where it heads, and there the interest ends.
A little dissapointed, but not completely suprised
.
it sticks too much to the obvious cliches.
i reckon
that extra song they put on the first album when they re-released it was the worst thing they had released so didnt hold out much hope for the 2nd album. sadly they have failed to change my expectations with this single
I'm not sure
where you got the impression that these guys were anything special. They were, and are, the definition of a fly-by-night CD:UK sensation.
They do have Abi though.
Yeah but Abi...
has got the leatheriest skin and the weirdest kness I ever did see.
I repeat..
KNEES.
Anyone remember that single of theirs 'Creepin' an' a Crawlin'
Back in the pre funky saxophone dross days? That was good that. More of that, less of this two bit skiffle nonsense.
