The Enemy: It's Not OK

"We'll live and die in these towns," boasts the slogan on the back of the sleeve. Who are we to argue.

Whether bands like The Enemy would exist without the likes of Arctic Monkeys is open to debate; the fact that the ink was barely dry on their recording contract before their mugs appeared in one or two tabloids probably sent the scept-o-meter up several notches, too.

If it wasn't for the fact that The Enemy do have several spanking tunes in their possession - tunes such as this rabble-rousing call to arms - they'd be a lost cause in many cooler-than-thou circles. They probably already are to some, who won't give their songs a chance.

If you're one such person, it's your loss: 'It's Not OK' has all the hallmarks of In The City-period Jam combined with the smalltown mentalism of The Specials. As diatribes attacking the mundane and humdrum go, this sits up there with the best of 'em.

With The Enemy, Coventry has something to brag about besides being Lady Godiva's ghost town full of ex-Peugeot employees.

Wait for it....

GOOD REVIEW!

these guys

are seriously the worst band I've heard all year.

yep

they are fucking awful. i saw them live, and couldnt have sung a single melody back at you after. it was about 4 times i'd heard the song on the radio before i started to remember it...

I think

you're being harsh there to be honest.
Sure, their influences aren't exactly a big secret, but then you could say the same thing about any post-rock, metal or orchestrally manouvered indie combo (Arcade Fire we're looking at you) to an extent.
Does that make it a bad thing?
No, not if they've got good songs, and this lot have.

i'm not

commenting on the fact that their influences are blindingly obvious (we normally term that derivative non?) i'm saying that they are completely Forgettable.

Erm

worst band ive ever heard. worst band ive ever seen live. just WORST

The Enemy?

more like The NME. yeah, I went there. I went there, took some pictures and came back.

is john lydon

in any of your pictures? he went there so long ago there's probably a plaque or something.

They got together last Feb

and here they are now!
Amazing.

Anyway they're a good young band with everything going for them. I think they will be big.

!

They used to be a piss-poor classic rock by numbers band peddling their Who soundalike wares. It obviously didn't pay off.

Cue a hasty reinvention as Monkeys style street urchins and voila! The world loves you.

I'm not buying.

I don't agree

they haven't got good songs either, they sound like so many bands at the moment. At least rip off something thart hasn't been ripped of tons and tons of times recently.

Oh and it's a bad rip-off anyway (think I said rip-off too many times there...)

come on lightend up.....

thought it was a fair review. Whose original?? I think this single shows that this band have some promise. we need to try listen with an open mind and take each band on it's own merits.

It's an absolute embarassment

to this country's music and media industry that a band this atroicious can not only get a deal but get coverage too.

They really are a composite of borrowed ideals and stolen impersonations. They make Nowasis (Oasis tribute band that famously made it on to TOTP) look like The Verve.

Whoever agreed to bankrole this at Warner's should be sent to Iraq.

wasn't that

No Way Sis? (pun-tastic, you see). or is my mind starting to unravel?

ahhh, i see

twas the midpoint betwixt our answers. oh well.

Actually

I really like this song.

hmm

The video is kind of embarrassing...

as is

the tune

er

they have become my enemies indeed, blagh.
