Scratching the surface of the albums/compilations/12"/10"s we've been feeling this year.
Interesting that DOOM crept in there. Tis a good album, but there has been better raps this year.
Good blog tho, keep bringing it.
I can say that I have kept up on the electronic genre a lot more than I would normally, mainly because of you and the usual DiS cohorts infiltrating the boards.
Now I can say more than "Burial" when dudes start asking about electronic stuff.
I'm suprised he didn't put Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt.II in too.
We could of gone on forever with the singles list.
Get A Job/Lizards at least should be there :)
Terror Danjah too & Starkey!
I totaly forgot to wack in Joe and Next Hype though, so glad someone did.
I'll be saying that to my grave methinks...
I really like that 2562 album - sorta lost in space debris funk or something. Whatever, it's dead good.
And that Mountains record is amazing as well. Not sure how 'abrasive' Fennesz is on record though!
Can I also say how refreshing it is to see such a concise record summary? I like that you've only picked the real cream, rather than try and cover everything so no-one can criticise you. Big respect for that kinda opinionated/brave music journalism.
We could have gone on forever to be honest but that wouldn't be very useful for the peeps that are looking for this kind of round up for advise on the sounds coming thru our blog. Plus we hate lists to much to spend all year writing an epic one haha
I much prefer this kinda 10 (or 20 at a push) records type listings which actually shows some consideration and opinion. I don't want a rundown of everything released this year, where it drags on for days and pages and pages of stuff I just will not read apart from glancing at the titles.
(I know I shouldn't say this as a DiS scribe...)
it gets to much and to boring.
Plus when people are hooked in with a few things they'll be more than happy to start digging themselves and look at more of our content.
Its been a quality year for music.
And it's nice to see that not everyone wants a top 50 (which essentially counts down all the albums released in a year that anyone thinks are any good).
Mmm... Loads of great choices.
Some that I've liked that i haven't seen in too many of the lists:
Geoim - No More Tears
Clouds - Protecting Hands
Efdemin - Acid Bells (Martyn Mixes)
Scuba - Hard Boiled (SCB Edit)
Ramadanman - Humber (Sven Weissmann remix)
Scuba - Negative
Henry & Louis - Rise Up (Pinch remix)
Good album choices although I'm not as keen on the Martyn full length as everyone else seems to be despite liking most of his 12"s
Geiom is one of my favourites, I always find myself going back to his stuff. I think I've been buying about 2/3/4 singles a week all year its so tough to round all of that down.
I keep going in phases with the Martyn album sometimes I love it and others I'm not to keen.
I still find myself loving the Apple Pips 12" more than anything else he's done. 'Elden St' and 'Hear Me' are wonderful though.
My favourite thing of the year, hands down.
End of year Short Circuitry, with associated list-based things. Now that I look at it again I could quite happily have written twice as much, it feels a little inadequate to describe how diverse this year's been.
It could be my computer/internet being a shitter, I'll try a bit later... I started to write a little retrospective for sonic minefeild but gave up after a page of waffle hahah I think I'll not bother, maybe I'll do a little one before the end of the year looking backwards and forwards like I did last year.
So posted a copy on CBOB (without lists etc) -
Musos seems to be down at the moment.
good shout out to Highpoint Lowlife they've constantly suprised me and put out some brilliant music this year, I keep going back to the 10-20 stuff. Which reminds me I could do with wacking up some words on the next EP sometime.
