I get the impression this would make it a bit of a closed shop. Maybe make the Social Board only admissable in this way, seeings as its hear where most of the nonsense is. I think. Or maybe I just miss it elsewhere.

- Have a 7-day ‘cooling off’ period between the first post and the ability to start threads.

I really don’t like the idea of the regulars ‘approving’ people. It sounds too cliquey, and would require them to spend a fair bit of their time on this Newbie board like marshalls or something.

I don't like spam either, but identifying an eejit is a bit more subjective... it should really just be up to admin to set up some spam filters or whatnot.

It's like being back at school and having to earn kudos before being in the 'cool gang'.

I went on a board once where you couldn't start a thread without posting a few times first and it was just annoying. I just wanted to say hi and give everyone a mix in the mix section.

The newbie board thing is a bad idea. I like the idea of rating posts though. As in +2 to -2, or thumbs up/thumbs down.

I can understand how annoying spam is, but this is not the solution.

To stop the spam and the "hilarious" fake accounts all this place needs is a good few mods, either to have the power to approve or reject accounts of new members when they sign up, or to have the ability to delete threads and users.

i dont see why there's any value in allowing people who've just signed up the ability to start threads.

logins from free e-mail accounts. football 365 operates that system and has no real spam.

no-one is allowed to start any more than one thread per board per day. Advantages:

-Reduces spam
-Doesn't discriminate against newbies
-people will think before starting a 'i'm annoyed at GS3 thread' or whatever
